S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: See Direct X 11 at work

GSC Game World's released new screenshots of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, showing off the difference in shadow quality between Direct X 10 and 11. Exciting stuff.

The PC follow-up has players taking on the role of an agent in the Ukraine Security Service, sent into the Zone to collect information on a failed military operation. A new interface, side quests and a 'free play' mode are promised.

It's out in Q1 2010. Look at the images below and try to resist upgrading your PC for those lovely, lovely shadows.

What kind of paid BS article is this, that does NOT make me wanna upgrade my PC and nor is it exciting :laugh: If you hadn't told me, I probably wouldn't even have noticed. Shadows, gee.

Stalker looked good from the gameplay point of view and where it was set but was nothing special about the graphics and that.

Not really, just more contrast as far as I could see.

As a fan of the original STALKER, I can't wait for FoP. Clear Sky was a bit "meh" in my opinion, and the game mechanics introduced in CS were crap in comparison to the same mechanics implemented in the "Oblivion Lost" mod for the original game. That trailer made me feel ill though, very epileptic unfriendly :x

Yup. This shows DX11 will be just like DX10, which, when you think about it, will be exactly like DX9. :rolleyes:

IMHO, it's a matter of taste if you actually prefer some DX10 shots over the DX11 counterparts there.

The shadowing is most notable, but I'm not sure I'd even want that kind of smoothened shadowing in all cases.

I sure as hell wouldn't upgrade a gaming PC for this anyway.

Not seeing a difference here. Not seeing the difference between DX9 and DX10 is a whole nother thing.

This is hardly the game to show off any DX10+ features anyway, at least use a game that actually uses DX10 and 11 stuff.

it looks like the shadows blur out with distance... im guessing its going to matter more in large and complex scenes, or maybe in night scenes where the shadows wont be constantly sharp/blurry... the closer something is to the light and further away from a surface, the blurrier its shadow will be...like it simulates the light sources as having a size, rather than being a point light source

but im not so sure about the point of the character renders... it looks like low/high polygon count comparisons, like with the round mask filter being jagged in one and smooth in the other...

I really feel sorry for all those 'suckers' that bought (cough) Vista (cough) for DX10 alone...... :laugh: Was a great marketing trick that though ;)

Bingo..this game was made for DX9 then just barely updated to DX10 at the core and now they are doing a minimal optimization for DX11.. This game is in essence a DX9 game that was just patched up to DX10.

They should show games that will be built from scratch for DX10/DX11. Not this crappy game that took 3 versions to be just ironed out from bugs.

now i can see the light ... what are these ****s trying to do, feed us bs by telling is is turkish sugar? ... damn ... i've never thought dx 9 -10 -11 could be more obvious .. or maybe i am dyslexic
