a1ien
Why even bother talking about this game's graphics? It does not look as good as the two year old Crysis in those screen shots. Game developers have failed to beat Crysis for too long now.
ZonoBurk
Is this a joke? Seriously, not funny. Yup. This shows DX11 will be just like DX10, which, when you think about it, will be exactly like DX9. rolleyes.gifThx. You have saved me an unnecessary upgrade smile.gif Have a look here. scaramonga
Is this a joke? Seriously, not funny. Obviously has an HD 5870 on order and beginning to regret it already :p They screenshots go as far back as......well......Vista lol. I wasn't fooled then, and I ain't gonna be fooled today :)
Chemaz
Im not suprised that the screenshots are amazing. I dont think games will look much different until they ditch directx 9 and focus on 10 and 11. Which i think will be fairly soon, as more ppl will be upgrading to vista and 7 and most cards for the past 2 years support 10. Plus directx 11 brings more additions over 10 than 10 did over 9, so there's more reason to develop a game for 11. Tbh i blame consoles for the lack of uptake of 10 and probs 11, these days they're developing games that can easily be ported to the console or vise-versa. coth
Wonder if Alan Wake will be DX 11.... Alan Wake project is closed. It won't be relased on PC anymore. They will release what they have on xbox 360 only. Total fiasco... But development history of stalker wasn't really better. At least they have released a very buggy late alpha version. And this one is not stalker 2. It's stalker 1 spin off. Or to be exactly a part of what stalker 1 was supposed to be.

toadeater
Since 99% of PC games will be console ports, there will be no games requiring DX11 or using features that don't exist in DX9 & 10 (simpler shadows, lighting, etc). I've said before that Nvidia, AMD, MS, Intel, and all of Taiwan and Korea better start supporting PC gaming because there is no longer any need to upgrade PC hardware for gaming, because games are limited by the specs of the Xbox 306 and PS3. Personally, I think graphics on the level of Crysis are good enough, I don't want to upgrade, but the PC hardware industry is going to be begging Obama for a bailout in 2010 if they don't do something to stimulate PC-centric game development, and MS isn't going to have anything to promote DX11 in Win7. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted September 28, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 28, 2009 ...but im not so sure about the point of the character renders... it looks like low/high polygon count comparisons, like with the round mask filter being jagged in one and smooth in the other... Hey, you picked up on the major difference! One of the main things DX11 adds is support for tessellation, where you feed in a low definition model to the GPU, then it turns it into a high definition model to render (it can scale the quality based on resource restraints) Expecting major graphical improvements over DX10 or DX9 is the wrong way to be going about it really, they're mainly updates for the core. Andre S. Veteran Posted September 28, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 28, 2009 STALKER is not an example of a game that looks impressive, I mean fundamentally it looks like DirectX 8.1, with a bit of sugar-coating. The grass looks as bad as ever, all the vegetation is bland and jaggy, the colors and lighting in general are washed out and not aesthetically pleasing, and on top of that, their engine performs like crap. I think they should ditch that old engine completely and start something new, that actually performs and looks up to today's standards. Or license Unreal 3, I don't know. Plus, these games have always been riddled with bugs, they have terrible UIs and worse voice acting. I'm sick of STALKER tech demos, it's doing more harm than good to pc gaming. Their games have so much potential, but the engine GSC Game World uses is the biggest pile of **** ever. Every time I load STALKER back up for a quick play, I am at the same time amazed at the lighting, but horrified at the foliage / colors, etc.
ThePitt
I dont know how could you ppl not to see the differences between dx10 and dx11... Its clear, about 300 bucks of difference. btw, pic by pic looks the same, even more, some dx10 looks a lot better than the dx11 equivalent

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted September 29, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 29, 2009 From what I've read online, the only two DX11 features they used were "DX11 shadows" and "DX11 hardware tessellation". Those are two hard-to-notice features unless you show a direct side by side comparison. Even then, you'd need to pay close attention to the differences. Especially since the second feature is mostly under-the-hood. I'd say it's cool that they made use of DX11 features; however, it's not a good game to showcase DX11 technology. A game built from the ground up with DX11 in mind would look better, image quality wise.

The game had several problems, but the environment and the story were awesome. You could try playing it with Oblivion Lost.
