DirectX 11 Screenshots from S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2

Aside from this game, DiRT 2, and BattleForge (which only uses Compute Shader 5.0), I can't think of any other game that is going to make use of DX11 technology. I'd hate to see it suffer the same fate as DX10.

I don't think it will, people don't have the misguided idea that Windows 7 is bad.

Edit: That and Windows XP is really old.

You're probably right. People would still need to buy DX11 video cards, but hey... at least more people will be able to play DX10 games (on Windows Vista/Windows 7). I'm sure we'll see more DX10/DX11 games after Windows 7 is released.

There's always a lag when a new DX version is released, but DX11 has major core changes over DX10 (MS had to backtrack on making those changes in DX10 because poor little nVidia couldn't get their GPUs to work right and pass WHAL. Thus DX10 got gimpped compared to what it was originally going to be. And what it was originally going to be is more like what DX11 is now. Many core API changes that help devs out and boost performance, Tessalation is the big new feature, and Compute shaders.

Games that are built with DX9 and just tack on DX10 won't show you any sorta dramatic difference. Oh and by the way, it took how long before devs started to fully support DX9? I doubt many even remember, but DX8.x stuck around just as long as DX9 is holding on now.

IIRC, the upcoming Alien versus Predator game will utilize DX11, though to what extent I don't know. I could be remembering incorrectly, however. ^_^

Once Windows 7 hits and more people get on that and off of XP DX9 will start to die, this is a given. And I don't see any real reason to stick to XP if you can move to 7 having used it for 2 months myself.

ill be sticking with vista unless theres some amazing Sale on W7. The performance difference is very minor, and my vista aint broke. But shelling out nearly 300 CAD for an OS that offers me nothing new, wont happen...

None of my future titles will be Dx11, maybe not even Dx10. the only games im hyped for right now are SC2/D3, d3 being far off...

everything aside even if they're not aiming for that crysis look they could at least do a better job blending trees into their environment so they don't look like poles...

Guys, I don't know what you expect in graphics these days, but you're not going to see Doom to Quake type leaps any more.

The shadow improvements are good, and they exist. Just because they're not earth shattering doesn't detract from the work being done. It's all about iterative improvement - over time, you'll notice these things less and less because they look real. You don't walk around life being amazed at shadows - but you should be amazed at computers being able to reproduce those shadows with ever increasing accuracy.
