smiff
I've got a few .avi's on my mac that I'd prefer were in iTunes, along with everything else. However, as I'm sure you know - iTunes ignores the existance of .avi's completely, so I can't import them, let alone play them. So I could do with converting them to a format iTunes recognises; .mov or .mpeg4 for example. However, I'm having very little luck in finding an app that can help me do this. I've tried Handbrake, and after selecting a file to convert, it says "No Valid Titles Found", ffmpegX doesn't want to play either; it seems to actually rip a copy of the file, but then I get an 'unrecognised file type' error in quicktime. Any ideas? :(
Phantom Helix
First install Perian, then open the files in QT Pro and save as .mov, it does not re-encode the files it just puts the audio/video tracks into a .mov container
smiff
Ah excellent, cheers for that - worked a treat. I already had Perian, just completely forgot about it.
AltecXP
Does that then let them work on an iPod?
Phantom Helix
Does that then let them work on an iPod? If the Video and Audio are currently in a format that an Ipod can play yes, However i'm not sure ipod/iphone can use .mov files I will do a quick test and get back Well, the test file i made did not work, it was not synced to my ipod touch I don't really use my iPod/iPhone for video much so i never thought about that, They will play in Frontrow/AppleTV though which is how I use them So a re-encode to .mp4 or .m4v looks like the best way to make "Portable" files Edited September 28, 2009 by Phantom Helix
