Ninja Theory's 'Enslaved' is official

Tuesday 29-Sep-2009 5:20 PM Heavenly Sword dev unveils new game - screens

Heavenly Sword dev, Ninja Theory and publisher Namco Bandai have put the official seal on their new PS3 and Xbox 360 action game, 'Enslaved'. Here are the first screens.

The game - due in 2010 - is described as a mix of combat, strategy and adventure and centres on the relationship between the two main characters Monkey and Trip.

Big names are on board: Gollum man Andy Serkis will, like in Heavenly Sword, direct and "portray" the main character. Award winning The Beach and 28 Days Later writer Alex Garland joins to write his first game script, and composer Nitin Sawhney will create the soundtrack.

The story goes like this: "More than 150 years in the future, the world has transformed into an unrecognizable state where all that remains are a dwindling human population and merciless robots left over from wars long past.

"In Enslaved, players take on the role of Monkey, a strong and brutish loner, and his AI partner Trip, a technologically savvy but sheltered young woman from a peaceful community. Both become captured by a mysterious slave ship, which are rumored to harvest people and take them out west never to return.

"As they each attempt to escape, Trip realizes quickly that Monkey, with his raw strength and power, is the only hope she has of making the perilous journey back home. She hacks into a slave headband to enslave Monkey and link them together - if she dies, he dies. Her journey has now become his."

Players must make sure both Monkey and Trip work together as they navigate through the world, says Ninja Theory. Monkey wields his trusty staff to attack and defend against enemies, using a combination of melee attacks, blocks and counters.

He will also be able to perform takedown moves, allowing him to rip an enemy apart piece by piece, take its weapon for his own use or destroy it in one final blow.

This could be great. Especially if you enjoyed Heavenly Sword.

AI partner Trip... they talk about her like shes a real person though, confusing? Why would she enslave Monkey, it seems like he will have no personality if it's all mind control. I don't like the story but we will see about the gameplay.

I think we need to know more about the story at this point. That's just a very general rundown of the plot. It's all in the details. Looking at the screenshots she's there, since they say she's AI, it seems that while she looks real she's a robot etc, nothing new to that idea.
