Steffan Posted September 30, 2009 Share Posted September 30, 2009 No, this is not about the song by Devo. My wife and I saw a sneak peak for the movie last night and we both enjoyed it. Both of us thought it was going to be a cheap movie, but we were wrong. There were girls from the roller derby league near where I live at. I didn't even know the league existed until last night. They gave out cups with the characters from the movie as well as pins and tshirts. Whip It is about a girl (Ellen Page) who's mom (Marcia Gay Harden) forces her to do beauty pageants. While at a store in Austin, Bliss, sees some roller derby girls roll in and put some ads on the counter. She picks up on of the ads and sneaks to Austin to try out for the team. Drew Barrymore makes her directorial debut in this movie and she does a good job. She's in the movie as one of Bliss' teammates. Jimmy Fallon is the announcer for the roller derby events.
