Postive Experience

Hi All

As well as complaining on the internet i also like to post when ive had a positive experience, so i thought i would share this.

Im platform agonistic, i own mac's and PC's, i have been using PC's since 1989 and have used all versions from windows 1+. Ive been using mac's since 2005 (i used linux but more as a server than as a desktop, although i do like ubuntu for desktops and debian for servers).

I have a white macbook which i brought in Oct 2006. Ive used it daily since purchasing it, i listen to music / music videos / tv shows / movies etc.. I perform web design and other design work. I also use it for surfing email etc.. And project management. So the computer has had quite a bit of wear.

Thats the background, last sunday i was using my macbook and the usual warning came up to say the power was running low. I plugged in the adapter and carried on, all of a sudden the laptop goes off. I look at the magsafe and it's black not green or orange. I checked the fuse and realised that the power adapter was broke. I looked online and saw an article on the apple support site suggesting to take your computer in. So i booked an appointment for wednesday and took it to the cambridge store (uk).

Got to the apple store, the staff and friendly and polite even though the place is swamped with people buying asking questions etc. They noted that i arrived and said i would be called, sure enough at the time of my appointment my name was called.

Spoke to a bloke called Dave who tested the laptop and charger and said yes indeed the adapter was broken, he told me apple knows there can be a problem with certain adapters and said that apple replaces this free of charge. He went to the back and came back with a new adapter. No problems just quick and efficent, which i was very impressed. He then told me that the small crack i had on the palm rests of the laptop was also covered (i though it was because i lent on the palm rest rather a lot). He then checked the stock, said there was one and that it could be done within the hour. This i was incredibly impressed. Sure enough 1 hour later i had a new palm rest, new trackpad and new keyboard.

All was done with a smile and very quickly.

As said above i think it's important to highlight good work aswell as bad work.

I've had very similar experiences at the Apple Store. (Y)

I once took a Core Duo MacBook (note that, because it's important) in because the keys on the keyboard were sticking into a down position at times. They tested it, saw the problem, and said for me to just come back in an hour.

When I came back, everything was working perfectly. Just out of curiosity (because the actual body of the laptop looked pristine), I looked at "About this Mac". They had completely swapped out the bottom half of the laptop and had given me a Core 2 Duo.

I came in with sticky keys and came out with a new laptop, practically. :D Service was snappy and I got an upgrade for free.
