Weird disc read problem

Recommended Posts

My Xbox RRoEd 2 months ago, fixed it (works perfect since then) but ..... I'm having an "open tray" error now :(

Well, I was going to open it again and clean/calibrate the lens but the weird thing is that it can read audio CD's and DVD movies rigth after insert them :s, and if I watch a movie for like 10 minutes and then put a game disc it loads, perfectly playable (well sometimes cinematics hiccup) without disc read errors! but I can't play anything without "pre-heating it" hehe

Anyone have a clue about what could be happening?

(before anyone asks, yes I'm trying with originals)

Sounded rather familiar to the problem I had - I replaced the drive in the end.

yup, that's what I'm going to do

no, is working fine when finally reads the disk, no hangs, no freezes, no RROD, it's the damn DVD drive.

There's no case, I've opened, lubricated it, calibrated it, talked to it, cursed it, I was going to pee on it but oh well, I'm going to change the drive (Y)

While you may have an issue with the drive and it will need replacing I do have a question for you. Why are you using the drive to run games. Every since the NXE update I havent used the drive to run my games I run them all from the HD. Less wear and tear on the dvd drive that way. That would totally get rid of the disc problem when playing games until you replace the dvd drive in your system.

Easy, 20GB HD :( , I'm going to replace the faulty drive and then get a 120GB or a 250GB HD if available (Y)
