Sethos
Stardock?s Brad Wardell has lashed out at Games For Windows Live, and says that if the service decides to ?screw things up?, he refuses to make more PC games. Speaking with Shacknews, Wardell discussed how he started off as a ?big Games for Windows Live advocate,? and wishes that ?Microsoft would do a lot more in making the PC better as a gaming platform.? ?I intended for Elemental to be on Games for Windows Live, but then as we got closer, the Xbox group took it over more and more,? said Wardell. ?And they have things where, oh, if you want to use Games for Windows Live to update your game, you have to go through [their] certification. And if you do it more than X number of times, you have to pay money. It?s like, ?My friends, you can?t do that on the PC.? ?On the console, I don?t have to update my game because an anti-virus program got an update and is now identifying my VB scripts as viruses and I have to apply an emergency patch. That would just add insult to injury. We?ve had to upgrade our games plenty of times over the years, not because we found some bug, but because some third-party program, or driver, or whatever screwed it up. ?If Games for Windows Live maintains that strategy and they take over, I?m done. I?m not making PC gamVG247rl="http://www.vg247.com/"]VG247[/url]

-Vivicidal-
Doing business with Microsoft is like doing business with the mafia. Doing business with Microsoft is like using a spoon to drill your brain out of your skull, by the sounds of it. As a user, however, I've not had too much of an issue. jelli
They build games with VB? I think they were using VB as an example of what could happen, not as an actual example of problems they have encountered.

Boz
"If Games for Windows Live maintains that strategy and they take over, I'm done. I'm not making PC games. I would be done." Okay? I mean if he doesn't like it then he's free to stop making games..no? I do like many things Brad has done but he's known to have hissy fits. As soon as something doesn't go his way he raises his nose. Remember that podcast? When people started critiquing him he pulled out and ultimately podcast got shut down. That was pretty lame. CentralDogma
Hows about...wait for it....make the game, but not use 'Games for Windows'. Do any developers even use GFW? As far as I know, that thing failed misserably. Mr. Wardell seems to be about 2 years too late on his comments.

That's because they don't waste $20M of a game's budget on advertizing and cameo appearances by B-grade actors or "hip hop" stars. You can make TWO full AAA games for $20M, and that's just what companies like EA and MS blow on ads for game. Then they blame the lack of profit on piracy. Crompee
What is that supposed to mean? Good games create word of mouth, and I have not heard of any of those games. Also I have never liked ANY EA game. It depends, games which arnt advertised much.. You'll only really learn the name of them if you like or play that genre of games. Sins of a Solar Empire was a pretty huge game in the space-RTS even though it only had a $1,000,000 budget. It also got extremly good reviews, averaging between 8-9.5. Galactic Civilizations seems like its been around forever to me. It never got really popular but got the nickname 'Civilization in space' among the genre. It was a ok game for its time, with the sequal being a really fun game which i spent many hours enjoying. Havent got round to playing DemiGod but most people know about that due to what happend on its release day :p
