iamwhoiam
http://www.stardock.com/products/ and click on the "My Games" tab. They've made a lot, and I'm sure you've at least heard of a majority of them. That list shows 9 games and that's considered a lot? And to be honest, I never knew SD had games until I read on here somewhere where they screwed up and didn't put server side authentication in a game and it was pirated to hell and back and basically brought that game server to its knees because of the pirated copies. speedstr3789
Doing business with Microsoft is like money in your pocket. I doubt he's gonna stop making PC games...just crying is all. And it shouldn't matter what peoples opinion is of Stardock or baby Brad.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted October 4, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 4, 2009 GfWL does suck, it's buggy and I don't think they even test the thing (in Fallout 3, all the buttons are offset vertically, and the password box in the login window has different restrictions than the actual service) So of course, the solution is to not use it, use a better 3rd party client like Steam, or create your own system (Impulse)
Volatile
Never heard of the games. Develop the games another way... there certainly are many ways...
Neoauld
Well i gotta say i bought two games from Stardock's Impulse Demigod, and Sins of a solar empire pack(incl expansion) Sins is one of the most fun strategy games ive played and i wish it were more popular, because it truly is awesome and Demigod was complete and utter failure, still is, and multiplayer is a ghost town, and if you did get a game goin it would lag like hell if even one person had a bad ping or something Games for live though, i haven't had good experiences with it at all, i find it annoying in many ways, i know a bunch of friends have had issues with it also
bryonhowley
If Stardock made any games that were even remotely interesting I might care. +1 I couldn't agree more. I have played a few of there games and am glad I have never spent money on any of there crap.
fhpuqrgrpgvirzhpujbj
Someone just needs to make a Stardock Complaints thread to put all this, since Neowin Members mostly seem to hate WindowBlinds/Stardock in general with a passion.

Isn't Stardock part owner of Neowin or something? :p He has a point though, GFWL is pretty ordinary, long live Steam!

ViperAFK
I love all the stardock bashing by people who have never played any of their games. And the people somehow equating then fact that they haven't made a ton of games yet that their games are bad. I do agree he is being whiny here, he can just not use gfwl. But he is right, gfwl is just terrible and ms is doing nothing to help pc gaming.
Vice
Stardock should just release there games without using Games for Windows. Use Steams in-game stuff instead and integrate achievements in to the Steam achievement system. I'd be a lot happier to see them do that.
+LogicalApex MVC Posted October 4, 2009 MVC Share Posted October 4, 2009 I'm not sure why it matters. I don't ever remember buying a game wanting it to be "Games for Windows Live". So if he makes that his reason to leave PC game development then all I can say is good bye as we don't need you anyways. As last time I looked Games for Windows Live wants you to buy an XBOX Live like subscription for online. Not happening.

+LogicalApex MVC Posted October 4, 2009 MVC Share Posted October 4, 2009 GFWL is free Ah good thing they changed that then at some point. Although I still don't see any real benefit to it.
George P Global Moderator Posted October 4, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted October 4, 2009 Lets not mix up Games For Windows, the marketing brand, and Games for Windows Live, the service. MS started both around the same time so I'm sure few people fully noticed it. The simple Games for Windows is the PR/Marketing project MS started a few years back, now PC games have the "Games for Windows" moniker at the top of the box and also use stuff like the Vista hardware/performance index as a simpler way for buyers to know if the game will run. It's mostly paid for by MS iirc. if you sign up for it and slap that onto your box art. Now GfWL the service was rushed and buggy, I think MS will work all that out and it'll be good in time, but not yet. Probably in time for the next round of consoles and Xbox Live, GfWL will match up well with it's big brother. But back to the topic, he's just bitching, game devs do this often to more or less openly push a publisher or a platform creator to make changes. Take-Two did it a few months back to Sony demanding a price cut, which we got in the end, but that was a given. It's never going to change, there will always be something someone doesn't like, and now we have the internet so hell, just go online and bitch away. Probably in time for the next round of consoles and Xbox Live, GfWL will match up well with it's big brother. When was it (GFWL) ever buggy? Played about twenty games that used GFWL and even had four of them installed at once, and never had any issues with the service. The achievements registered properly, the game saved without any issues (on both online and offline accounts), they updates were downloaded without any issues, no problems with friends list... and I can't even think of any more issues that might happen with the GFWL service, and not the game itself. Doli
Do any developers even use GFW? As far as I know, that thing failed misserably. Mr. Wardell seems to be about 2 years too late on his comments. You dont know then..... its still around. Batman: Arkham Asylum and Street Fighter 4 are the most recent games I can think of that use it.

Sethos
I think the idea behind GFWL is excellent and it actually works extremely well within games, what bothers me is the "out-of-game" version. The marketplace you access through the GFWL software is empty or just links to another site and you don't even have the ability to open the dashboard you have In-game on the desktop, which is my main gripe - How hard is it to implement a desktop version? C'mon!
George P Global Moderator Posted October 5, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted October 5, 2009 Well I dunno, I've heard it's not that great, maybe that was just at the start and they have it working well now. I'm not knocking GFWL or anything, if they can get the whole XBL experience on the PC with GFWL then I'm all for it. My main point though was that, people who think MS isn't giving a crap about PC gaming and only thinking of the 360 are dead wrong.
