Shadrack
So is he saying if GFWL gets too popular he isn't going to make games anymore? Where does it say he has to have anything to do with GFWL?
Island Dog
See, that's the point I was trying to understand. They have Impulse, you'd think they'd be pushing their work through it or something, yet Brad appears to be more concerned with what Microsoft is doing, and apparently, is willing to put his career in gaming on the line as well as if there's no viable alternatives in the PC world. :/ Our work is heavily pushed through Impulse, and I don't think the comments made really have anything to do with Impulse. I think what Brad said is pretty simple and clear, that they were looking into GFWL for Elemental and the system has become more favored toward XBL, and it just wasn't a viable solution anymore because of things like the possibility of paid updates. I'm not speaking for him, but I think the point he was trying to make that if in the unlikely scenario that GFWL somehow dominated PC gaming, that would be it. That is what I took from it anyways. iamwhoiam
Why? :s No comments in this thread have broken our rules as of yet. Everyone is allowed an opinion. Jeez. I've seen threads where people had opinions concerning SD that didn't break the rules and there were moderated very quickly. Brad even threw out some personal insults at people. Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted October 10, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted October 10, 2009 And Neowin is quite different from what it started out.Anyway, my comment about GFWL is the idea that any update you make to your game has to go through Microsoft for approval which in the future may not be a free approval process. On the console, that's not a huge deal. But on the PC, there are lots of things that can require a game to be updated that have little to do with the game (video driver update, OS update, virus scanner update) and there's no way I'd be willing to have to jump through hoops and pay for it in the process just to be a PC game developer. Would you be willing to push your games onto consoles?
shc-boomer
Sigh, it just sucks that GFWL is becoming so much like XBL, it should be independent to a greater extent. GFWL was a great idea, but Microsoft is charging for everything, making the users pay more for something that should be free. At one point I hated Steam for some of the crap on it, but now its more reliable and to me much better than GFWL has been. At least Valve is willing to have tons of free updates via. their services. But see, right there is too many ifs. If GFWL dominated and if Microsoft started charging for updates... On top of that, it's still an odd thing to say, that he would quit making games. I mean, imagine if the web browser war went off like that, with Google, Mozilla, and so forth just saying, "**** it, we're out." I mean, it seems Brad is concerned, and I can see that, but his idea of just dropping out hardly sets anything of an example. Though, I guess it doesn't really matter anyway since neither if statements are true. :ermm:
Neoauld
does GFWL have that silver/gold thing that xboxlive has. GFWL should be..FREE..no matter what features are added
deactivated_
Brad, I love ya buddy. Even devoted a huge portion of my life to donating my skills to supporting the products you created (Windowblinds, IconPackager, DesktopX) .... but seriously, you are not a contender in the gaming world. You being 'done' in the gaming world would be no major detriment to society. Buck up and focus on what made you a name in the computer industry. Toxicfume Veteran Posted October 15, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) Well what do you know! I happen to agree with FrogBoy!! Never expected that, really. :D But, it's a partial agreement, of course. ;) I am on Frogboy's side when he mentions having MS approve every single update, that's just stupid and cumbersome. Indeed you can't do your console crap on a PC. However, Frogboy stopping to make games... I don't think it'd effect much, if anything :D I mean apart from the handful that like their games. I mean if Carmack was saying that, that'd put some dent in the industry sure. Edited October 15, 2009 by Toxicfume
LOC Veteran Posted October 15, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 15, 2009 does GFWL have that silver/gold thing that xboxlive has. GFWL should be..FREE..no matter what features are added It supposedly went totally "free" yet my XBL account just reverted to silver a week or two ago and my multiplayer capabilities were cut off (and are still cut off) on GFWL games. So, GG MS.

And I still can't stand the new layout. I still visit Neowin but I do not spend the amount of time here that I use to it is just not the same. As for GFWL let just hope that it takes of big time because as an end user I have never had a problems with it. Every game I have installed with GFWL have worked perfectly. LOC Veteran Posted October 15, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 15, 2009 Contact Microsoft, it is a free service on PC. It must be a glitch. My friend suggested I delete my gamertag profile and re-enter it. So I'll try that, if that doesn't work, I'll ring MS I guess. I really, really, really want to play Red Faction Guerilla and Resident Evil 5 online on PC with my friends, so yeah. Not to happy with GFWL right now.
