Modern Warfare 2 PC Postponed Till Nov 24

You guys do realize that you can't do dedicated servers with the server swap technology they've added so that if the server hoster flunks out, it passes to another server?...

It's a safeguard on the PC.

but thats just not how PC multiplayer is done... having control over the server has always been an important part of it, and now it is no longer the case....

besides , this server swap technology sounds like it could be better used for an MMOFPS or something if the servers are interconnected like that....

Why not? What makes a user hosted game, any more special than one hosted on dedicated server?

And good thing that I canceled my pre-order. This whole server fiasco is a joke.

Not to mention dedicated servers typically have more upload bandwidth available which allows for less lag in larger game sizes :)

Err, so who hosts the servers? Since player hosting won't work in Australia due to crappy upload speeds, and if its IW, then I'm sure we'll get screwed over and have no servers in Australia. :\

How many players are there going to be in multiplayer? :\

In COD4, my clan would pick a member each week to host a server and then we'd use hamachi to connect through lan. Will this still be possible with MW2?

You should listen to: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=...p;pid=591718654

Can't remember for sure, but I believe the IW guy said no split-screen and LAN for the PC version.

All the multiplayer gameplay will be through IWnet.

It was sad to listen. Because what basically IW guy said after 1:41, is that they crippled the multiplayer to sell DLC to the PC users for a profit.

The PC community is going to reject IW and flood the forums. I'm kinda surprised it's not happening already.

 I changed my 360 pre-order back to the PC version after hearing it wasn't postponed anymore, now I've changed it back to the 360 version after hearing all this.

WOW are you kidding me.... I was going to just stay with the PC version, even though it was delayed because I am too lazy to try and learn how to play a FPS on a console.

But now with no dedicated servers? No way in HELL I am buying it for PC. That's just dumb as hell... screw that.. Buying it for xbox

Your dang right. They are killing the PC gaming market. The console version is great, and don't get me wrong, honestly IMO the console versions can be better, due to less cheating, everyone has the same specs, etc... but I am a PC gamer, and choose to play my FPS's on PC and my other games on xbox.

This is a kick in the balls.

Buying MW2 for PC will only cause the above image to happen.

Thanks IW

This IW.NET reminds me of some similar Battle.Net. We all know how that one went unchallenged, so we can assume the same will happen here, to put IW and Activision to shame. :D

Yea, millions of people will play the game and love IW... oh wait, maybe you should not compare it to battle.net?

and they have even less reason to care about the PC now...

This move is all about money and nothing else. Someone at either IW and / or Activision or more than likely a combo of the both said the sales on the PC did not warrant the amount of resources, etc., they would have to then give to the PC community after release if they left the dedicated server model.

They do not care if they are destroying the very thing that made the PC version good, they simply know it would not bring in as much money as if they completely close it out as they are and release DLC, etc. at their own Pace.

So to me they have made it crystal clear, as far as they see things COD is now a title that it is more of a nuisance than anything else that it also comes out on the PC. All they care about are the console sales.

I tried to find exact numbers, which I could not, but I did find this...

Of the 7 million copies, about 3.04 million sold were for the Xbox 360. According to the data, only 383,000 copies for the PC were purchased, but that does not take into consideration digital distribution sales via platforms like STEAM.

So really the proof is all in the numbers,. No need to support the version that by far sells the least. So they close it out, make it so they control it, this way it is closer to the console versions then ever before. It is all about the money, and nothing else but the money. Ironically they will probably still make the DLC free on the PC I am thinking, but by doing this it just means they do not have to support the Mod community etc with tools and updates, so they save a lot of internal money there by going this route.

So IW can do all the community updates they want, have Bowling as the community voice and make it seem like they care about the community all they want, but to me they have again as I said made it crystal clear with this move, they do not care about the very same people who helped initially make COD what it is. All they care about are the sales numbers, they are a business after all so I guess you cannot blame they fully, but honestly the PC community needs to really step it up on this one and show 0% support for this game. If it is even remotely successful, you better believe other developers will look at doing this themselves, and then it because a truly epic disaster.

So the ramifications of this move are yet to be seen, but they could in fact be massive for what was known as the MP PC Community.

I just listening to Robert Bowling's comments on the podcast (http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2369799 at 1:41:00 for those who haven't heard it yet), and it was pretty shocking indeed. Basically, IWnet is going to mimic the experience that currently exists on consoles. In other words, the only choices for gamers will be to engage in matchmaking or private servers. No dedicated servers, no possibility for mods, no possibility for custom maps, and not even a server list. Not even a server list. Something that has been around before the original Unreal Tournament is non-existent in MW2. Bowling attempted to backtrack by stating that IWnet could potentially evolve into something that supports modifications, but he is clearly just performing damage control.

I honestly don't understand what IW's motivation behind the IWnet system is. It seems like it's more work for them, and gamers are getting a much worse deal out of it. If that had just used the exact same multiplayer system from the first Modern Warfare game on the PC, nobody would have ever complained at all. As it stands right now, there's pretty much no reason for me to purchase the game on the PC at this point. The advantages that the PC holds over consoles have been completely nullified now, and therefore, the 360 version has become a better choice for me. Maybe this was their intention from the start...
