Modern Warfare 2 PC Postponed Till Nov 24

if the server hoster flunks out, it passes to another server?...

It's a safeguard on the PC.

While the tech is pretty cool, it's not a replacement for a dedicated server.

Firstly, dedicated servers have more bandwidth and processing power, and are usually set up by experienced admins to ensure it all works well.

Secondly, having to put with 'changing host' delays during games is going to get extremely annoying, very quickly.

Great, that also means that in the future when Activision have decided that having IW.net online is not profitable enough, they'll just shut it down and no one can play MW2 multiplayer again, also: No LAN play.

**** you IW/Activision, **** you, you've lost my preorder.

See that's my fear also. They could shut it down at anytime. Now in their defense I remember we all said the same thing about steam when it first came out. We all said, no way am I purchasing a game through steam, because if Valve says it isn't worth it later, we loose our purchases, but look how well it worked out. So well in fact, that companies want Valve to roll steam out into its own division.

Also the problem I have is, this just shows that from now on, there will be no more dedicated server support since they are taking the time to set up this IW.net, from this point forward they plan on using it.

Dear Friends,

I have just read and signed the online petition:

"Dedicated Servers for CoD:MW2"

hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition service, at:

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/dedis4mw/

I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think you might agree, too. If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider signing yourself.

Signed.

I worry we are to late though. I mean we have less than a month for release.

Yeah, sounds like they've put to much work into it for them to come to their senses. :\ 58,000 signatures and counting. :o

Yeah usually I do not even bother with these petition things, in fact I would say it is probably definitely way to late for them to change anything, but at the very least a message can be sent.

And FTR, I signed it last night and I was #38,023, so it as of now has some pretty good momentum to it.

After what IW has said over the last few days it doesn't look like they have any interest in changing it. 402 is all "its great" while skipping over what everyone is ****ed about.

I loved them charging Australians 30% extra on Steam when we should be the same price as the US.

Wow really? Do other games have a similar price hike? I'm definitely going to wait until it's released and I've read some reviews before I decide whether to buy it or not.

You are under 30 days from launch and Activision seems to have gone the road of pure evil lately, sad.

i remember everyone saying that about EA a couple of years back.

they got ripped a new hole on internet forums for their sports titles, their DLC on disc etc.

but now it seems activision is hated way more

So to me they have made it crystal clear, as far as they see things COD is now a title that it is more of a nuisance than anything else that it also comes out on the PC. All they care about are the console sales.

CoD's been getting more and more arcade-like with every revision. Let's think back to the original... remember HEALTH PACKS!? Ok, even those aren't realistic, but now everyone in CoD has Wolverine's healing powers for some reason. And damage modeling; how is it that a 9mm MP5 does more damage than an assault rifle? How is it you can bunny hop while carrying eighty pounds of equipment? In the latest one they've added fantasy transparent ballistic shields that stop assault rifle rounds: http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Riot_Shield

Now since there's no private servers anymore, you can't disable those god-damned shields! You can't create a "hardcore mod," you can't do anything except play Preschool Warfare the way the bean counters at Acti-"We should charge more for our games"-vision intended.

Meanwhile, they're encouraging the underage console kiddies they've targeted this game at to experience what it's like to murder defenseless civilians at an airport. If this game is rated M, why isn't it designed for adults!?
