Salty Wagyu
Use a beefy PC for this, just a warning. Can only make it just about smooth with everything on low on a Geforce 260 SSC and there is still some input lag

Can only make it just about smooth with everything on low on a Geforce 260 SSC and there is still some input lag I have everything maxed out at 1440x900 on a Q6600, 2GB, 8800GTS 320MB Vista PC. Not a top of the line PC by any means - maybe the Quad core helps.
Xilo
Tried out the demo. My middle mouse button wouldn't work and I couldn't change keybinding... So I couldn't play the game. What a disappointment. :(
Iceblade
Tried out the demo. My middle mouse button wouldn't work and I couldn't change keybinding... So I couldn't play the game. What a disappointment. :( You should be able to rebind the keys inside your appData folder. For Windows 7 that is as follows: C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Local\Risen -> Edit ConfigUser.xml Find 'Key_Mouse_ButtonMiddle="WeaponMode_0"'. You can then use that to assign the "WeaponMode_0" to another key of your choice.
chevyordeath
I broke down and picked this up. I've been enjoying it so far. I think it will hold me over until Dragon Age, plus I've got a new character on Oblivion (heavily modded). Risen runs great on my PC, and on my laptop. Minifig
It is quite like The Witcher, but far less linear. I HATED the Witcher's stupid contrived combat system. That's enough to make me want to stay away from even downloading the demo of this.

Well, the combat system/flow is nothing like witcher... In Risen you need to keep your parry up and move constantly to prevent enemies from circling to your back. If you let someone behind you, you end up dead faster than after running into a wild boar in Gothic 3. Risen combat is quite challenging at the beginning but gets really easy toward the end, especially if you go with magic, maxing out magic bullets and bumping sword skill to 7 so that you can use couple rings to get it to 9 and then wielding two-handed sword with a shield makes you pretty much unstoppable. Can only make it just about smooth with everything on low on a Geforce 260 SSC and there is still some input lag While I didn't like the game on the PC version I had everything maxed out except for AA and it was smooth as silk....This was on a E8400, 4 GB ram, and a 9800GTX running at 1920x1080.... Sounds like you have some other issues going on because compared to other rigs mine is far from "beefy"

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted October 18, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted October 18, 2009 Those were some kick ass boars. Here's Gothic 3's protagonist - and an entire village - against a simple wild boar from the forest.

You're missing out (on The Witcher's fantastic story). I loved the Witcher but Risen didn't feel good because of the awkward drops in voice acting and other facets of its storytelling. On the other hand, Gothic 3's gameplay and bugs made it one of the worst RPG's in the past few years. (from an action RPG gamer)
Slammers
I'm really enjoying Risen, about 5.5 hours in so far. Combat not's great and although nothing really stands out there is something incredibly addictive about it. Does remind me of the Witcher, with all the overlapping quests and losts of running around towns talking to someone then talking to someone else, then talking to the first guy again etc. (I loved the Witcher) Graphics can be nice at times (morning especially) due to some nice (if extremely exaggerated) lighting effects but for some reason it's not running on my computer as good as I've read about on similar setups. Ive got a 7750+ BlackEdition with 2 gigs of ram and a 9600gt and i get 19-28fps at 1440x900 weather I have the settings on low/medium or completely maxed out. Tried with aa and af off and tried looking for official forums but no luck. Any ideas? Can someone playing on a Nvidia card similar to mine post what drivers they are using. Cheers guys. ylcard
I've been playing Risen for the past week or so, not that great of a game to be honest.. I like the graphics, but the animations of the NPC's when you talk to them are so stupid it's painful to watch, that ****ed me off quite a bit. The combat becomes better as you progress further down the skills, but it's essentially the same thing throughout the game, so.. boring. Character progression isn't that great either, it may be my personal taste but I don't like the fact that you can wield a two-hander and shoot a fireball out of your arse.. The worst part of it is the bugged quests.. some important NPC's can die and might break quests, some NPC's fall over a cliff and you can never loot that quest item to finish your quest. On the very start, when you help that Hunter hunt something, when you finish that quest you're talking to him as if you alone did it and he was somewhere else ! It happens several times in the game and it's just so clear that I'm shocked that the devs even do this in the first place. It's WAY too much like Gothic, people that like Gothic play Gothic, why the bloody hell would they play Risen if it's the same as Gothic ? Wow, new story line ? Read a comic book ! It's not a horrible game, but since it requires A LOT of hours to get you through the content, and then it ****s you over with a bugged quest to ruin all of your progress - it kinda sucks. Not my best investment, I do hope Dragon Age would be better.
Slammers
This game was not made as a sequel of sorts to Gothic. It was made to tide us over for a few weeks untill Dragon Age comes out!!!! Then we will need nothing for a good 2-6 months. SOOO EXCITED!!!!!!
