Dead_Monkey
Is it possible to play ODST (The Halo 3 disk) online with just a memory card. My friend bought a used xbox without a HDD and is wondering if he can play with just buying a memory card. Sure. Why wouldn't it be? In fact, Halo 3 was one of the few games that had performance declines when installed to the hard drive. There are a very limited number of games that require the presence of a hard drive on 360. Final Fantasy XI is one. If the hard drive is required, Microsoft's current standards require that the label on the back indicate how much storage is required, and in 360-land, there's no difference between a hard drive and a memory card, aside from how much data can be held on it. Note that this information is not applicable for original Xbox games, which do require a hard drive in BC mode on a 360.

macrosslover
the 2nd disk that comes with halo odst is just maps for halo 3 is it not? if that's the case it's not the whole complete Halo 3 online game so that wouldn't change the fact that he would still need the original Halo 3 game to play online and thus a hard drive to install the map packs. This is incorrect. The 2nd disk is the programs and data for the online Halo 3 multiplayer, and includes all of the maps that have been released to date, as well as three additional maps. If you want to play Halo 3 multiplayer, you have to have that disk in the drive (or the Halo 3 one, obviously, but if you use the ODST one, then you have all the expansion maps to date as noted above, on the disc). If he buys a used console or a core console, he will be able to play online as long as he has a memory card (or internal storage like on the Jaspers) to hold his Live profile. Neo003
I don't see any problem just using the disk & 360 with little memory stick.

Tharp Daddy
Really? Yeah, if i recall it and Crackdown were optimized to run off the disk, so installing it to the harddrive would boost load times and what not, hell you can't even install Crackdown to the HDD. Neo003
Really? This is just for Halo 3 and doesn't apply for Halo 3 ODST. http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?ty...s&cid=16252 Halo 3 ODST IS optimized for drive install, that is if you have enough space. You don't have to install in order to play the game not any of the game will you have to install in order to play.

I could be wrong but I beleive Forza 3 has a manditory install (which is why I had to buy a new HDD for my 360 :p) and don't be suprised if more games follow suite. Dead_Monkey
Really? Yes, the problem in the case of Halo 3 was that it caches data to the hard drive if you have one, and because of the specific way that it was optimized, you end up with significant amounts of seeking and thrashing as it copies stuff from one area of the hard drive to another. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2008/11...stall-issue.ars Crackdown remains non-installable (also Dead or Alive Xtreme 2)
