Bungie has 'six-year plan' for Halo

Recommended Posts

One of the few cases in which I don't mind the milking of a franchise, a very big part of the Halo universe is still unexplored and could offer some interesting media. And of course Bungie is a great developer, ODST proved they still are imo.

Hardly fair :p There's been 4 games in 9 years, which is a typical release pattern for franchises (Gears of War has had 2 games in 4 years, yet no one screams cash cow at that :p )

Halo:CE

Halo 2

Halo 3

Halo Wars

Halo:ODST

Halo: Reach

Those people who complain about too many Halo games are the same people who love Final Fantasy

I was just thinking that. :p

One of those haven't been released yet and the other wasn't made by Bungie. Bungie has made four Halo games since 2001 (8 years). So I would say that isn't too bad. It will be 5 games in 2010 with the release of Reach if it isn't delayed. If you want to complain about "milking", just look at Mario.

in future games can they please add a few IQ points to MC!

MC is a soldier, he's smart enough. He won't ever get a commanding position higher than squad leader and his rank can't really go any higher either. He's made for combat, not intelligence.

Personally I am looking forward to their next IP. I originally thought that Superintendent was a hint at something with a similar tone to Portals, but it ended up being ODST. I really want to see either an RTS or squad based FPS or even a combination of RTS, TPS and FPS.

Well could he at least learn that just because it can't do it's party trick the Gravity hammer is still a HAMMER.

To me it was pretty obvious the planet at the ending of Halo 3 was the planet from the Marathon games. I'd seriously love it if Bungie tied the two universes together somehow, or just did a new-gen Marathon game.

That would be awesome, since Marathon to this day is a terrific series of games.

As for Halo. Eh. It's still one of the more overhyped games ever put out there. It's got good qualities of course, and SOME of the story is decent for sure. But come on. How long do you really think it'll be before Bungie announces Halo 4 with MC in it? When a game before it sells 9 or 11 million copies, you usually make another one :)

But that is a book. It isn't one of the games. Most Halo fans don't go anywhere besides the games. So they base MC on the games not any extra stuff (even if it's canon in the universe).

That being said, MC is certainly smart. Come on....

Actually, a lot of what happens in the games is directly resulting from the books. Halo: First Strike set the stage for Halo 2, and if I remember correctly Fall of Reach was published in August of 2001 before Halo: Combat Evolved was released in Nov of that year. The books are a heavy influence and part of the games. While you can get the jist of the generic plot from the game's representation the books are not easily thrown aside.

I would love to see MC in the next Xbox system, not on 360 anymore.

I doubt we will see him again, unless they do a prequel. MC is done and dusted, be interesting to see what they come up with next :) I'm hoping it's centred around an alien character, bored of the humans now :p

EDIT: I'd love to see a prequel set in the Forerunner's time, now that would be epic in my opinion :)

While I completely agree, a lot of the mystery is from the fact we only have their ruins. While it is cliche and overused (Halo, Star Trek, Stargate, Total Recall, etc) the mystery of them would be killed if we played as Forerunners.

Reach is a prequel :p It stars Master Chief and a whole host of other Spartans which are known to probably a whole 10% of all Halo fans :p

Reach is the retelling of what happened on the surface of Reach, which MC was never on. MC never left orbit during the Fall of Reach and he was insignificant to it overall, so no MC won't be the main character of the game.

I can see why people are calling them out for 'milking the cow', but as others have said, there is a lot of the Halo universe that is undiscovered yet. I can see a fair few more options for Bungie yet.

I would still love a Marathon tie in somehow even if Bungie said they are seperate universes. It would just rock, and tie in games that came out like, 15 years apart or so? heh

Really? I thought Reach was the retelling of the book Fall of Reach...

It is, and Master Chief never fought ON Reach. What he did there was so insignificant a game of what he did would be shorter than 2 hours.
