bob_loblaw
Let me start off by saying this is not a flame-bait thread. It's not about which system is better in a sense. I recently bought a 360 (a little late to the game but better late than never I guess) and I'm fairly new to the whole scene. Anyway, now that I have a PS3 and 360, I realize a problem it poses. Which version should I buy? Obviously it's the same game but how do I know which to choose (of course, exclusives don't apply here)? Does it even matter? The biggest factor that I'd consider is online gaming. Which one has a larger online base community? For example, COD: MW2, I'd like to buy this game, but I'll be playing it online a lot so I want the one with the larger online users. I don't really care about graphics superiority. They all look good enough to me. For those who have both systems, which one do you buy games for and why? Help me out here.
Neo003
You're right to be concern there's not difference between either console. So it's upto you to decide which one to buy, it's like being married to 2 wifes, don't know who the hell to f**k first.
SimplySchizo
flip a coin. games are 99% identical. the 1% is arguable and not worth the discussion. theres nothing anyone here can say. aside from the known differences between the consoles. its ultimately up to you now. these types of threads tend to get ugly fast. regardless of intentions. Added: When i had both consoles, and it came down to a nonexclusive game, the decision was as easy as, which console did i want to support. Both online communities are more than satisfactory as far as 'size' go. you wont be waiting any longer on either to get a game going. 360 has live, the more interactive online experience due to cross-talk and other minor conveniences. these dont come free thou. ps3's working on their version on xtalk and should be out soon as well. just go where you friends are. Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted October 9, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 9, 2009 Honestly i would chose PS3 for the simple reason of A) it has a wifi card and make online easier B) Online is FREE and pretty much for no other reason.

PS3 is great system but really playing online on a wifi sucks, it does have Ethernet port and that's more than satisfactory unless you?re in a ditch and has to use wifi. SimplySchizo
PS3 is great system but really playing online on a wifi sucks how so? i played both my 360 and ps3 on wifi and not once did i have any lag issues, or disco's with either. you might want to get yours looked into if you yourself are having issues. anyways, our connection preference has absolutely nothing to do with his choice of games, does it ? no one knows his situation better than himself, so nothing we say is really relevant when it comes to which games he should buy. its ultimately up to him to weigh in and decide to his benefit. My computer and PS3 has some DNS issues with my router, so all my computers with windows 7 laptops, PS3 and Netbook included are not working with my router only wireless (the reason my wireless sucks). But my 360 works without any problem, I still can't figure out why. But for gaming I would choose wired anytime.
Alan-
Think about the controls, which scheme do you enjoy more? FPS on PS3 or FPS on 360? For me it's 360 with the trigger buttons, it's as if they were built for FPS.

For mult-console games I usually go for 360 first, mostly becuase I have more friends that play more frequently on the 360 and I prefer the controller for playing shooters. I find it more difficult to coordinate games with friends on the ps3. And sometime's it frustrating to play on psn because a lot of people don't have a headset. So I suggest to get the game for the console you think you will think you will have more friends online to play with more frequently. Honestly i would chose PS3 for the simple reason of A) it has a wifi card and make online easier B) Online is FREE and pretty much for no other reason. he's not asking which console to buy...he already has both. what does this have to do with his question? splur
Xbox 360, given that you already have it all set up and you have xbox live. If you don't have live and you don't want to pay the annual fee (why did you get a 360 in the first place if that's the case?), then obviously PS3 would be the better choice. Xbox has a larger online gaming community than PS3, considering half the people who buy the PS3 buy it because it seconds as a media center. bob_loblaw
What is cross-talk? I don't mind paying $50 for a years worth of online gaming so it's not really a problem. And if I had to pick, I think most of my friends have a 360 although not many play online. I'm thinking about buying NFS Shift but can't decide which version to buy
Massiveterra
I think he's referring to the 360's party system where you get to communicate with friends, even if you're not playing the same game. That's just a guess though.

+InsaneNutter MVC Posted October 9, 2009 MVC Share Posted October 9, 2009 If you wanting to play online buy the game for the console the majority of your friends will play on, if not go for the cheapest.
g~man
im taking this from a 360 vs ps3 standpoint as you did not mention pc firstly, most multiplatform games look and run better on 360 (a lot being noticable differences too), this is no secret, and you should take this into consideration... especially if you paid money to buy a hdtv you mentioned modern warfare 2 as a game you are interested in, which controller do you feel most comfortable with on fps? for me, its the 360 controller by far. the makers of modern warfare 2 have stated numerous time that its primary system is 360, not ps3, not pc. 360 will also get the first dlc map pack as a timed exclusive, thats a big dealbreaker for many by itself online community... 360 beats ps3 hands down, only a clown or a fanboy will say otherwise. more players, a lot more people with mics, party system, cross game invites. only drawback is paying a yearly fee, but they are a lot cheaper if you buy the 12 month xbox live card online, some actually email you the code within the hour If you wanting to play online buy the game for the console the majority of your friends will play on and this! Kenji
For me, its PS3. Live is full of noisy little kids, and the fans are louder than my washing machine. its very off putting when you're trying to play a game. I also hate the 360 controller with a passion. The day I buy a 360 is the day there is a MUST HAVE exclusive, so in other words, never.

t0mbi
Live is full of noisy little kids ...Mute.. It's called mute.. At least people talk on Live, as apposed to PSN :p the fans are louder than my washing machine PS3 gets noisy too. But on 360, you get the option to install games to the HDD with reduce noise and loading times I also hate the 360 controller with a passion You will find your in the minority there buddy. :) Worst thing about 360.... reliability..but mines lasted 2 yrs since my free repair from MS so im happy

+virtorio MVC Posted October 9, 2009 MVC Share Posted October 9, 2009 I only really buy exclusive PS3 games as finding games online is much easier on Xbox Live. The 360 versions of multi-platform games often seem to be a little better (graphics quality and framerate) than the PS3 versions as well. Which is a shame as I find the XMB much nicer to navigate than the NXE and I like the PS3 controller a lot more than the Xbox controller.
