+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted October 9, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted October 9, 2009 If you wanting to play online buy the game for the console the majority of your friends will play on, if not go for the cheapest. Best advice you can get in any topic like this without bias, but kick back and enjoy the 6 pages of Neowin members arguing
Brad.
I'm in the same boat, I recently bought a PS3 (love it) and I'm struggling to think of a reason to buy games (that are cross platform) on the 360. My xbox live is running out a week before the release of MW2 (which I'm planning to buy for PS3 as me and my best mate have a PS3 now). The only reason I'd play my 360 is for rock band, guitar hero and halo (but halo literally requires xbox live) so I'm facing a dilemma myself. If I were you, I'd just go with your gut instinct, what do your friends have? What console will they buy the game on and so on.
DigitalE
If I owned both consoles, I'd get the 360 version of most games solely because I can't stand the Playstation controller.
BGM
If I owned both consoles, I'd get the 360 version of most games solely because I can't stand the Playstation controller. If I owned both consoles, I'd get the PS3 version of most games solely because of the complete opposite reason! ;) I despise the 360 controller.. and it's one of the main reasons I have never bought the console.. White Cuban
My computer and PS3 has some DNS issues with my router, so all my computers with windows 7 laptops, PS3 and Netbook included are not working with my router only wireless (the reason my wireless sucks). But my 360 works without any problem, I still can't figure out why.But for gaming I would choose wired anytime. i get the same speed on wifi as i do on cable pretty much, router is in same room so why not?, when im in house with the laptop, i get 350kb/s in the farthest corner of the house, which is plenty more than the games would ever utilize. Massiveterra
Let me start off by saying this is not a flame-bait thread. It's not about which system is better in a sense.I recently bought a 360 (a little late to the game but better late than never I guess) and I'm fairly new to the whole scene. Anyway, now that I have a PS3 and 360, I realize a problem it poses. Which version should I buy? Obviously it's the same game but how do I know which to choose (of course, exclusives don't apply here)? Does it even matter? The biggest factor that I'd consider is online gaming. Which one has a larger online base community? For example, COD: MW2, I'd like to buy this game, but I'll be playing it online a lot so I want the one with the larger online users. I don't really care about graphics superiority. They all look good enough to me. For those who have both systems, which one do you buy games for and why? Help me out here. You should also think of an investment like Gamefly. That way, you play $20/mo and play any game you want without any reluctancy on which system to get it for or any regret on buying a bad game. And if you want to keep the game, you pay for it at a discounted price and they'll ship you the manual and box.
ramsy66
I have both consoles, and I always go for 360 unless it's exclusive on the PS3. For the sole reason that all my friends play the 360, if they all played the PS3 then I'd be there instead.
5Horizons
Seriously, complaining about the controllers? I like the 360 triggers a little better and the PS3 d-pad better but when it comes down to it they're pretty much the exact same thing! I don't see how you could _hate_ one and like the other. I have both consoles, and I always go for 360 unless it's exclusive on the PS3. For the sole reason that all my friends play the 360, if they all played the PS3 then I'd be there instead. Agreed! 1337ish
I usually always buy for 360 because: I prefer the controller esp for fps Xbox Live is so so so much faster for downloading games/addons (not a big point but its slow as sin on PSN) Xbox Live is much easier to setup games with mates due to cross game invites and parties etc Xbox lets me play music stored on my pc IN ANY DAMN GAME I WANT! it just streams over the network and works brilliantly I prefer the NXE as you at least know about demos etc coming out but sony have improved this in v3 of ps3 to their credit Generally things have looked better on the 360 (did anyone see the diff between ps3 and xbox for ghostbusters! fail!) Its a cheaper consolse More cheap games, more games in general Tons more people with mics imo (although this is good and bad...) A small point but your xbox live account can be used on GFWL as well which is nice. I am not saying the PS3 is crap, its just really is not in the same league. It does a lot of things okay where are generally xbox does it better. You even get a 3 year warrenty with an xbox (and yeh I know a fair few with borked ps3's outside the 12 months)
SimplySchizo
ahh the ignorance and irrelevance. summing it up for the OP: go where your friends are, and if thats not the case, go for the better $ deal. /thread
bob_loblaw
Well since there are no big deciding factors, I'll just switch out between them since I want to support both systems. But if it's a big online game, I think I'll stick with the 360 since I'm growing fond of Xbox Live. I'm also growing used to the controller as well. It seems like its better for shooters. But I think when it comes to fighting or racing, the PS3 is better. But of course, that's just me.
BoDEAN
If I were to buy games for the 2 systems I have, wii and 360, I would buy games for the 360. not sure how much they cost anymore, but you'll get a better game on the 360 over wii, and even ps3 imo. Brian M. Veteran Posted October 11, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 11, 2009 Unless it's a PS3 exclusive or on special offer, I tend to buy for the 360. No idea why, I just prefer playing on it.
ynnoj
360 here. The majority of my friends have an Xbox and I prefer the pad over the DS3.

Non multiplayer cross platform games, wait a week and look it up. in cases of Ghostbusters, the choice should be clear. While other times, just go with the console that has the best controller Honestly though, I've seen cross platform games where the 360 look better, and cross platform games that are practically identical(thoguh sometimes with lower res on the PS3), but I have yet to see a cross platform title that looks better on the PS3. and I mean outside of subjective slight varieties of how the graphics are presented. So the solution is simple, wait it out a week or two, then get the cross platform games for the console witht he best multiplayer and/or the best graphics
