ok the problem happen again but this time no need to reformat, i had system backup on another partition, so i just boot to dos and done a copy of system.

And it works all fine now ;)

First of all - Sorry for digging up an old(ish) post.

But, Vinh, I have managed to solve my problem.

It was being caused by my SCSI Card for my CDRW... removed the SCSI card and it boots first time every time.

BTW, it wasn't actually corrupting anything as far as I can tell... so we've both probably done needless reinstalls. :disappoin

my girlfriends pc got the same, its an amd 1800 xp, msi k7t turbo2

512 sdram an hercules 32mb vidcard and a 20 gig 5400 rpm hd.

I installed xp pro 2600 rtm again and till now no problems.

but just wanna know how that could happen, hope to find an answer here :)

c:WINDOWSsystem32configsystem is a registry hive

along with default, SAM, SECURITY, software, userdiff

if your "system" gets corrupted your as good as ****ed. unless xp is able to restart it from backed up copy.

i deleted everything i could from the system32 folder w/o screwing up my system

i back up with ghost 2002 regularly so there really isnt a need to have all that crap there :D

Exactly... it doesn't actually get corrupted... for some reason, windows XP reports it as corrupted when my SCSI card is installed... take out the card and it's perfect again.

Go figure :s
