The Evolution of 3D Gaming

Out of those listed, my fondest memories are from Elite and Stunt Car Racer... especially Elite was impressive with such a huge open ended universe packed onto a single floppy disc.. iirc the game was programmed in machine code.. pure awesomeness :)

Battlezone and Star Wars were always two of my favorite Arcade games back in the day, especially Battlezone, and I honestly never realized it was because they were among the first 3D until just reading this article. Back then I just knew I really liked them, but it makes absolute complete sense now it is because I was so damned WOWed at the 3D aspect.

@the first game Battle Zone

didn't the US army use it as a training sim at one point?

(Y) Good memory. Taken from the very last sentence of the paragraph about Battlezone...

It was so groundbreaking at the time that the US Military used a customised version for training.

i only skimmed the article.

I guess people on here expect people to be wise-ass', but I was literally saying good memory to you for remembering this fact and that I knew it was true because I read that article, not because you did not see it. Oh well.
