Sethos
Remember back in August when EA Montreal VP Alan Tuscan told CVG that some of EA?s legacy games from the 16-bit era could make a return to the gaming spotlight? Well, hold on to your hats kiddos, because it looks like some early video footage of a possible new Road Rash has landed on the internet. CVG found the video, which is supposedly the work of EA Warrington, and shows concept gameplay of ?bikers wrestling each other at high speed, and swinging baseball bats? Neato. CrashG
I'd certainly like to see an updated version. One of my all time favs.
MR_Candyman
there's a lot to like about that video. 3 things worry me though: When you grab somebody with your right hand that means you let go of the throttle and slow down (unless of course you have cruise or a throttle locking "cruise control". That video showed an insanely high speed at one point, which at that speed would make it very hard to not crash into anything. The circular light on the screen was annoying and I didn't get why it was there aside from maybe a false sense of speed.

Ji@nBing
I think I've made my feelings on Road Rash pretty clear. But I'm not going to get my hopes up too high as this studio has been shut down a while ago. I really hope another studio has picked it up and is continuing work on it though. LightIdea
Looks sort of like Burnout on Bikes.Which I don't mind at all. Burnout Paradise has bikes, unless you knew that :p I don't know why they didn't do this sooner.
lunamonkey
GTA4: lost and damned do a pretty good job of RoadRash at low speed. The video was a little over the top though. He grabbed a road sign!!!! A cemented road sign at top speed. Stupid! And you'd find it very hard to pull someone over your head when you're on the ground, let alone on a bike. But then again, it'd be boring otherwise.

Smigit
Looks good in that video but also somewhat unplayable to me also. While the person there doesn't crash it looks to me like youre relying on blind luck while going around corners near a cliff face as to whether a vehicle or obstacle is in front of you or not and at that speed I'm sure most people would have just crashed. Perhaps I'm just slow... Good vid but and it'd be nice if something came from it.

lunamonkey
You obviously haven't understood the concept behind games. Obviously :p They may as well just set it in space, or have aliens riding the bikes, or have hover-bikes. My point is (now), they have a realistic setting, on earth, with real bikes, and real bikers. While it is unlikely they would ride at those speeds, it is 'possible'. The thing is that it isn't humanly 'possible' to lift someone off a bike and throw them with one arm. It just seemed weird to add it in. Why not just punch them off the side? It's the same overall effect and it's still believable in the universe they've created. Maybe they should just go the whole hog and make a fast Mario-kart clone. Obviously not. Still, looks promising.
+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted October 13, 2009 Subscriber¹ Share Posted October 13, 2009 AFAIK this was canned when EA Warrington was disbanded about 2 years ago, a lot of the staff went to Bizarre Creations which is "just down the road" from Warrington. carmatic
Maybe they should just go the whole hog and make a fast Mario-kart clone. Obviously not. now that you mention that, it does remind me of mario kart and any of those fancy racing games... the speed boost from doing nasty things is something like burnout, and that road sign is presumably a power-up which would be , just as you said, mario kart... its a shame tho if they canned it... lunamonkey
Is it that you don't understand the point I'm making or are you just being a prick or are you being funny? You feel like I've missed the point? I haven't. You missed in my first post that I understood it'd probably be boring if it was just a straightforward racer. I understand that games aren't always meant to be realistic, but you can't always just use the "it's a game" excuse for putting something stupid in it. If I'm playing GTA4, an exaggerated alternative version of New York, I'd be surprised if they suddenly pulled out a laser or threw in an alien. Anyway, I really couldn't care less, realistic or not. It just seemed stupid. And the fact it's cancelled or on hold makes this even more pointless. Anyway, whatever, I can't believe you... or me..... even replied... You think they're real bikes and real bikers...? You know you just watched a video of a game, right? ;) Real as in a game version of a real biker. Not a stupid alien or strong-man ;)

Tough was doing it while typing secret codes for nitro :p

Of course you can, I'm just flabbergasted by the stupidity in your posts - I wanted to put forth arguments why it's stupid but I didn't want to waste my time, it feels like a lost cause in your case.
