Mid 09 Macbook

Recommended Posts

I just got my White Macbook 2.13ghz 2GB Ram last weekend (Saturday October 3).

Love it!

Only thing that is kinda bugging me is that I've noticed lately that there's a squeal or a high pitched sound coming from the left side of my machine. I can very very faintly hear it while sitting straight and about 3 feet from the screen (IE, as I'm typing this). Otherwise i have to move my ear really close to hear it really good.

Now, I've read on the apple forums that this is known as "CPU Whine", they say it can be temporarily silenced by opening photo booth or running something that requires the CPU not to idle. I've opened up Photo booth, listened, opened safari and firefox all at once. I still hear the sound but it seems to be more faint but still there..I've also tried turning the brightness down and off but still hear it.

I bought this from Best Buy ( closest apple store is 1hr from my house), I know I have the one year limited warranty, but i guess what i am wondering is if it's worth bringing in.. and are they going to fix it if this is a known issue? or what else to do..

If it's something that bothers you, take it in and see what you can do about it.

Otherwise it's not likely to be something that'll just magically "go away".

So take care of it while you still can, and before it gets worse.

Also, try taking it in to your local Apple store and see what one of the Genius Bar guys have to say about it.

In my experience, most of the time they'll be pretty helpful.

I've heard of this issue before... you could certainly attempt to take it into Best Buy and see what they tell you, but honestly I think you'd have better luck with a Genius at an Apple Store (Apple themselves are a little more caring when it comes to smaller issues like this).
