Draken
http://www.brutallegend.com/home.action Br?tal Legend is an action-adventure game under development by Double Fine Productions and to be published by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is scheduled to be released on October 13, 2009 (stylised 'Rocktober 13' in promotional material) in North America and October 16, 2009 in Europe. Though Br?tal Legend was originally to be published by Vivendi Games prior to its merger with Activision, Activision had dropped the game from its portfolio after the merger. It was later picked up by Electronic Arts, though Activision and Double Fine brought counter-lawsuits against each other over publishing issues. The issues have since been settled out of court.Tim Schafer, the game's creative director, was inspired to create the game by his own past musical experiences. The game will feature the character of Eddie Riggs, voiced by Jack Black, a roadie who was transported to a fantasy world inspired by the artwork of heavy metal album covers. Eddie becomes the world's savior, leading the down-trodden humans against a range of supernatural overlords using a battle axe, his Flying V guitar infused with magical powers, and a customizable hot rod. In addition to Black, the game will feature voices of heavy metal musicians including Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford and other celebrities such as Tim Curry, as well as more than one hundred metal songs selected by Schafer for inclusion in the game. Wikipedia Release dates: NA October 13, 2009 EU October 16, 2009 The game is out next Thursday/Friday, so far we have the demo. Any thoughts about the game? Spookie
Well I finished it not 4 hours ago. Really enjoyed it. It simply has the best use of music since Guitar Hero. Hell it even puts them to shame. While that was a new way to experience music. This is that and a game on top. There are set pieces I won't spoil with some amazing music selections. Bored of Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce? This will reinvent that for you. The game is well to quote my self (hey it got retweeted by Double Fines Lead Designer ;D): "Brutal Legend: Imagine Psychonauts met DotA at a metal gig they shagged and DotA got pregnant. This would be the child." The voice work as you'd imagine from Tim is rock solid with Rob Halford, who has a very sizable chunk of dialog, Tim Curry & yes even Ozzy doing some amazing work. I could go on but I won't spoil it before it's release. It's a thoroughly enjoyable game with some ace cameos and quality characters (look for the bat side quest). gigapixels Veteran Posted October 11, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 11, 2009 I absolutely loved the demo. It seems very well done and the gameplay is completely enjoyable. I can't wait till the 13th.
+Mystic MVC Posted October 11, 2009 MVC Share Posted October 11, 2009 I really enjoyed the demo. Spookie how would you say the demo represented the rest of the game?
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted October 11, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted October 11, 2009 Spookie that's a nice advance copy you got a few days early, passed on by your friend with the indie store, or Marvel or DNL? Anyway, I downloaded the demo off of PSN, will try it later. I can't find any reviews for the game yet, WTF?
Spookie
I really enjoyed the demo. Spookie how would you say the demo represented the rest of the game? Reasonable. If anything the demo was just a large tutorial for combat & driving. The game soon throws further combos at you, unit/resource management and vehicular combat for you to juggle later on. Spookie that's a nice advance copy you got a few days early, passed on by your friend with the indie store, or Marvel or DNL? :laugh:I can't find any reviews for the game yet, WTF? Actually none of the above oddly enough! Yeah there is a review embargo till Tuesday, I guess EA is wary about it with it being one of the only original titles in this release window which usually spells DOOM for a game regardless of how good it is. If you enjoy metal it's mos def not one to pass up on. edit: I'll have you know I work my arse off at that store, if we get an early copy I deserved it! :p

Remysaus
so, is the game really freeroam with RPG elements? didn't really get that idea from the demo...
Spookie
so, is the game really freeroam with RPG elements? didn't really get that idea from the demo... Yes, freeroam with parts of the map cut off for till the plot opens it up (you still get a sizable piece of land to play about in off the bat). RPG elements eh I guess so. You can upgrade your guitar, axe, combo skills and druid plow. The upgrades consist of things like: Axe - Do fire damage, do more melee damage, chain lightning effect. Guitar - Combos with a guitar piece do a great deal more damage, more fire damage on pyro effects. You can upgrade eddie by finding effigies of Ormag?den which are bondaged up with a ball gag in their mouth. I **** you not.

Spookie
9.0 from IGN. Though we all know by now that IGN take handouts from publishers (there is a review embargo till tomorrow). Here's hoping it's a sign of things to come though.

Here's hoping it's a sign of things to come though. Oh, hell yeah. This is one of the best games I've played all year and it provides something we don't find often enough in this industry: a unique experience. I'm pretty sure you've never played a game quite like this before. True, a game needs to be more than "different" to work -- it has to be fun. And Brutal Legend is a lot of fun. That resumes what I feel for the game (in bold) (Y), and yes if you like metal that's the game for you \m/

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted October 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 12, 2009  Yep my friend actually forwarded the voice mail to my cell phone from Jack Black. Really was a clever / funny way to do the come pick up your preorder thing. In fact I got my call yesterday about Uncharted 2, and the message was downright awful. It was a real women who did the recording but certain information was all automated, so some words just louder than others, etc. Brutal Legend wins hand down for best preorder pick up phone call. I tried finding it but could not, but in my research I read apparantly Dan Akroyd did the preorder call for Ghostbusters. (Y)
Qumahlin
Amazing game, the only thing I have disliked so far is the secondary quests are incredibly repetitive and not in the least bit challenging. I ended up changing the difficulty to Brutal due to that alone. Artistically the game is amazing, dialogue is funny, gameplay in general is a blast and the rockstar cameos are great. Though you MUST like metal music otherwise your going to end up keeping the in-car radio off the entire time you play which is one of my friends complaints, but quite frankly hes an idiot since im not sure what other type of music he was expecting :p For those asking, yes it is a free roaming game, and the demo didn't do it justice, hell the demo didn't even give you a taste of one of the biggest elements of the game which are the stage battles..they can be quite challenging at first until you get the mechanics down, but then they become a blast! Shadrack
Wow. Whenever I saw the commercials for this game on TV, I thought, "you gotta be kidding me..." Sounds like it is being really well received.
LOC Veteran Posted October 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 12, 2009 Just the fact that Ozzie is in the game, as himself no less, and making fun of himself (and making sense when he talks apparently...) is a ++ in my book :D
Spookie
Just the fact that Ozzie is in the game, as himself no less, and making fun of himself (and making sense when he talks apparently...) is a ++ in my book :D His first role is of the guardian of metal who is a vendor for all your upgrades and he keeps dropping quips as you scroll through or enter his 'domain'. He has another role I won't spoil but it's worth doing the side mission to find it. :D

I could swear he replaced some big rocker who pulled out a few months ago, and was going to voice a major role in the game. I love Tim Curry :)

He plays possibly the most sinister role I've heard him do in some time. He does it very, VERY well though. It's also worth mentioning that Tim even went down to his local gamestop last night to say thanks to the fans buying the game which was very nice of him!
