Codecs the xbox support

What codec's does the xbox 360 support for movie playback and are there any good free converters for these... I have alot of xvid/divx content and some h.264...

it supports divx and according to wikpedia h264 as well, just try it and see.

also, if you want to play any format it doesn't support then if you play the file from within media center on the xbox then it will be transcoded from the pc so basically it can play any format your pc can play.

Not entirely true I think, Windows Media Center transcodes nothing, simply because for Windows Media Center on 360, they actually use a Remote Desktop Protocol to run it on the 360, so it's actually all running on your home PC, just streamed to the 360. There isn't any proper Windows Media Center Software on 360 (though of course that does mean your point still stands, any format Windows Media Center on your PC can play should be available through your 360, simply because it is your PC playing it.)
