Fid
Hi all, Just wanted your opinions on whether I should bother using bootcamp to install Windows 7 and if there are any issues with doing so. By issues... I did hear that bootcamp/windows can't control the fans properly, so the laptop can overheat? My main idea for installing Windows is so I can play Aion from in bed and downstairs haha, rather than sitting at my desk on my desktop. I've got the 17" Macbook Pro June 09. Should I have any fan/cooling problems doing this? Cheers guys - no doubt you'll all be as helpful as always!

NfoTech
I've installed 7 on several Macs using Boot Camp and have not had a problem at all. If you're going to get a copy I say fire it up!
Fid
wait until 22 October Why? :p I have a licensed copy of Win 7 Pro from my University :D... or do you mean that is when everyone else will be doing it? lol Thanks for the info NfoTech, might just go for it :D Doubt I'd ever use it for anything apart from games, but at least the option is there! kevinkarada
I have installed Windows 7 non 64 bit on my mac with bootcamp. I have had no problems with it. Just wish you could right click with two finger only.

crazzyyfool
Got Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit running on a unibody 15-inch MBP and it works perfectly with the Boot Camp drivers provided with Snow Leopard. :) Edited October 12, 2009 by kraized
Quillz
Dunno if Boot Camp yet supports 64-bit Windows, but the Vista drivers work perfectly fine on Windows 7, as they should. The latest Snow Leopard drivers seem to support trackpad usage that's exactly the same as what you'd get on Mac OS X.
Zarpraz
The only problems I've read about are on early '08 Mac Pro's, something to do with Apple's implementation of EFI.
Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted October 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 13, 2009 I was wondering about the right click as well however it will be rather some time before I try windows on my mac

The latest Snow Leopard drivers seem to support trackpad usage that's exactly the same as what you'd get on Mac OS X. Boot Camp has included 64-bit windows drivers for quite some time now http://support.apple.com/downloads/Boot_Ca...indows_Vista_64 They do not however support Windows 7 yet (Even 3.0 from SL), but the Vista Drivers do work both 32 and 64 some macs like my iMac though are not supported for 64-bit for windows, however that is just a check in the installer, if you go to the Drivers>>Apple directory on the install DVD and run BootCamp64.msi with elevated privileges it will install just fine

piehouserat
installed windows 7 pro 64bit on my macbook pro 17" mid-09 with no problems. Made the partition 100gb so its big enough to allow me to install a couple of games. Currently playing through Batman Arkham Asylum and the graphics look great! i did however install the latest nvidia graphics driver for win7 from the nvidia site as the one provided on the SL DVD was an older version. it does get a bit noisy but thats to be expected. just dont play in clamshell mode as the vent is underneath the screen hinge. I have my macbook connected to my 24" screen but leave the macbook screen open and upright.
PyX
Why? :pI have a licensed copy of Win 7 Pro from my University :D... or do you mean that is when everyone else will be doing it? lol Apple does not officially support Windows 7 right now, because it's not out. Maybe they will update their drivers once Windows 7 is out, but honestly I installed the 64-bit version on my new MacBook Pro (with no ease) and it's working like a charm. The new Boot Camp drivers in Snow Leopard finally work. It offers full support for the keyboard options, full support for the multitouch trackpad, etc.
0sit0
Works fine here, (32 bit) The only problem I have is that the track pad is way too sensitive if you like to tap to click etc.
