+John Teacake MVC Posted October 18, 2009 MVC Share Posted October 18, 2009 A mate of mine had this genius idea of buying a PS3 on eBay that was faulty and fixing it himself, He got one for ?50 quid and he fixed it. I have a few questions though. 1) How easy are they to fix, Common problem is that the disks dont load/Arent recognised. Apparently this is due to the sensor at the back of the drive slipping down. Its an easy job to remount apparently. How easy are they to work with inside? Is it just similar to a small factor PC? 2)Some people remove the hard disks, Do they just take normal PC harddisks? I thought I wanted to get in on that action too, I was planning on installing Yellow Dog Linux is it? and using it mainly for the BluRay Player. Sethos
No clue about the first but the PS3 is compatible with just about any 2.5-inch SATA notebook harddisk ( There is a physical size limit, as some 2.5s are a bit bigger, not sure what it is though )
+Anarkii Subscriber² Posted October 18, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted October 18, 2009 1. Not sure. 2. You need a laptop SATA HDD. They are VERY easy to install, and takes all of 5 minutes. The PS3 will format the disk for you after you install it too, which is brilliant. No stuffing around. Seriously only takes 5 minutes for you to replace the HDD. *note - you cannot install Linux on the new PS3 slims. Don't know why, but yeah you cant :)
