Redestium
I was watching the latest episode of the Bonus Round on gametrailers and one thing was said that really stuck out in my mind. "PC gaming is so 90s". Is that really the case? I've been discussing this with some friends and getting mixed reactions. It seems in some ways the PC is the passenger while consoles are in the driver's seat controlling the industry. In terms of exclusives it seem to be more highlighted in the console world while PC releases don't even get coverage some times. I don't know if this means that there is a decline in popularity or just the fact that it's relatively cheaper to invest in console gaming and the experience is better/good enough. Either way it seems that in the gaming media the big stories always center around consoles. I've been a gamer all my life practically, since the Atari days and the biggest excitement I've seen in PC gaming still comes from the Doom 3 and HL2 development/releases. Nothing that I've seen has matched that media and gamer frenzy for PC, while every few months there is some mega release poised to launch on a console that gets everyone frothing at the mouth. This isn't meant as a flame just a look on the industry and where it's headed. Popularity, market share, power, all will determine where developers place their games, so I'm just wondering if we are going to see less and less games made for the PC let alone PC exclusives. LightIdea
No. PC Gaming is still as popular as it ever was.
jonhapimp
please this has been said for years and it never has died especially with every average household having a computer(a lot more than there was in the 90s)
Tech Star
It's not on the decline, but it's being neglected by publishers and developers. Instead of using it to it's full potential they are just porting games from the console variation onto the PC and shafting the PC gamers in the way. svnO.o
I've been a dedicated PC gamer for awhile now. The last console I owned was a GameCube and I don't plan on getting a console anytime soon. PC gaming is superior to console gaming in most aspects (at least in my opinion). It does seem like developers/publishers like to cripple the PC versions though which doesn't help. It also doesn't help that Infinity Ward / CoD:MW2 stripped away all of the PC goodness that was in CoD4.

How many times has there been a PC game delay this year, compared to their console counterparts? I can count quite a few. Then lets think about DLC not being made available for PC but done for Console. Now lets add in the collectors packs made for console ports but not for PC versions. It all adds up. So no, PC gaming isn't dying, and I challenge anyone to show me evidence to say it is, but it DEFINATELY is being neglected. The first arguement obviously is piracy. What a crock. Publishers are blaming piracy for bad sales. Try releasing a less buggy game? Give us more/better/cheaper DLC? Better/equal collectors editions. And finally - DONT SCREW WITH THE RELEASE DATES! "More time to improve the quality of the game" - My ass it is. It's frickin ported, what difference could it make? I think you get the point, I don't mean to attack anyone in the post either! :)

This bugs me a lot on new games i have logitech wingman cordless controller (10 buttons, dpad, 2 thumbsticks and thrrottle slider) in older games to set keys you assign a button to an action but in new games since its ported from xbox360 they want you to buy the 360controller for pc and this limits how many buttons you can map (eg. street fighter 4) I cant even remember any pc exclusives after crysis, there are probably some rts games out there

ScorpioRGc1
within the last 2 years i know a few hardcore pc gamers who have switched over to consoles, dont know any console gamers who have switched over to pc Well, after about 2003 or so, I pretty much went back to solely playing consoles (like I was doing before '99 when I got my first PC), because my second PC (a laptop), wasn't up to snuff to play the newer stuff coming out then. But since I built my current rig in late '07, I rarely touch my PS2 or GameCube anymore, and only play PS3 when I'm at my father-in-law's house; I've pretty much been only playing PC games the last couple of years. And I'd consider myself a fairly hardcore gamer (not mot as much as I was when I was younger; I've been plating games for over 20 years now). ^_^ :D
Doli
I just wish there were more adventure games like Batman: AA on the PC. Hell if Brutal Legend or Okami was out on the PC I would be cool. FPS are getting stale for me. I still play a little TF2 but im not see anything special about FPS anymore, it just seems like an easy genre for developers to me. Ill check out Borderlands to see if it adds anything new but now im looking for a good adventure or racing game.

Joshie
PC gaming has been on the decline since we lost point-and-click adventure games. Yup. I said it. *whistles*

furyshinobi
What about MMO, RTS, and sim games? But imo these can be played on consoles too besides RTSs where PCs is definitely the way to go. Most of my friends only buy FPSs for PCs and for everything else, they go with consoles. @Mav Phoenix: Final Fantasy XI is a good console MMO imo. g~man
What about MMO, RTS, and sim games? pc will never die because of these 3 genres, but i think fps on pc is on the decline, its still very popular and will always be around but gamers are slowly jumping ship to consoles i think sonys motion remote and possibly natal could provide better controls for rts than keyboard + mouse

It won't ever die..it's just getting pushed outta the way (like arcade did) Xbox or PS3 are cheaper to play games on, and easier to setup to play games (for an average user) My grandparents only play solitare on the PC, but they can use a Wii. With FPS like Halo and COD being console orientated...PC has alot to worry about in the FPS genre becoming a console favourite
MikeChipshop Member Posted October 19, 2009 Member Share Posted October 19, 2009 Can't speak for anyone but my house-hold on this but we have an Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, PS2 and gaming PC. I can tell you the PC gets the most attention and the most games bought for it. We have more PC games than all the other platforms put together. I hate playing FPS, MMO or RTS games on anything but a PC, the speed of a mouse combined with the huge amounts of customizable keyboard shortcuts defines maximum control in my book.
