Famitsu Awards Bayonetta A Perfect Score

Recommended Posts

This came as a surprise to me, though I've seen some screenshots I never had it in mind to play the game, though of it as just another DMC clone. Though now I'll have to check it out a bit closer and see how it got 40/40

You forgot a"t" at the end of the second "though".

And I don't care about the score the game got, but the scoring system itself sure does looks interesting.

I'm fine with good ol' 100/100 and 5/5... but 40/40? What gives  ?

They have 4 people review each game and give a rating out of 10. Then they add them all together to get the 40 total.

This is actually quite a good review scheme. It makes it incredibly harder for a game to get a high rating. And due to a wide variety of people's preferences, play styles, criticalness, etc, having multiple reviewers gives a better insight to the games and severely reduces any bias.

If you see a game with a high review score, you know it has to be a game worth playing (if you like the genre that is).

the very first paragraph of the article:

"Japanese game magazine Famitsu has four separate critics score games on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best score. The four scores are then tallied, and 40 is perfecto."

Actually, that makes too much sense. I wish others would follow and not leave the judgment for one reviewer.

And all could follow. Doesn't matter if they use the 100/100, 5/5 or how many reviewers they got (even though the more, the better). Everything can be divided equally.

Had no real interest in clicking the link. Only replied to the title and the OP's post.

Well I might have to give this a shot. I had never played anything in the DMC series before 4 and I fell in love with that game. If this is anything like that, I'll probably have a good time. :p

FYI it's only the 360 version that got the perfect score.

Oh, I didn't know about it, I guess 2 out of the 4 reviewers spotted something they didn't like on the PS3 side. That's still pretty interesting. Often multiplatform games get the same scores. I only think once or twice one version is one or two points higher.

Famitsu has gotten kind of spotty in the last several years :/

Still a 40/40 is a score that normally wouldn't be handed out even if palms were being greased. I was interested in this game before, and I think I'll still wait for the price to drop. DMC4 dropped like a stone, and it's available now in a three pack for 40 bucks or something like that with Lost Planet and Dead Rising. I expect that this game will suffer a similar pricing fate, great game or not.

Western release is 2010 right?

I'll be in God of War mode by then for my hack em/slash em up needs :p

The fact that MGS4 which sucked got a 40/40 and MGS3 didn't makes me distrust that system.

Japanese also have different interests in video games. So take it for what you will.

Any reviewer/mag that gives out a perfect score is suspect.

Just shameless marketing/hype/publicity generation.

Thing is Famitsu has been around forever and have now only 12 games to get a perfect score in their history. There's been debate if they've been laxing on reviews lately, but still.

Reviews aren't all I go buy, the best thing is to get a demo and try it yourself but if you can't for some reason, a video review or just videos of the gameplay help more than any typed up article. IMO anyways.

Lots of games I've ended up liking have gotten 7/10 in the bast etc. Not everyone likes the same stuff, but at least Famitsu uses 4 people and not just one.

You can also go to sites like gamefaqs where they have their own review score and also a review score averaged out from visiters/users which is even more broad and pretty on the money.

Judging from the demo the game is a blast to play. The only real questionable thing is the subject of the game itself. The main character is annoying just to look at and all the sexual references are just too over the top for me. I'm torn between having a good time playing and being irritated with the main character.

I played the demo and loved it..some really insane combo moves! And unlike Emn1ty above me, i loved the main character :p

I have seen this character type time and time again, but this time it is just a bit too much for me. Come on... her clothing gets skimpier as her attacks get more powerful? The clothing part really wasn't needed.

Where's the demo out, and what console is it on? Just wanna make sure I go on the right console to get it. :p

I'm not holding out high hopes for this game though. I just got bored of hack-and-slash games after playing Devil May Cry 4. Not a single one has impressed me since. I've played Heavenly Sword, Genji: Days of the Blade (had it almost as long as I've had my PS3 back in August 07, but never played it until a couple of months ago), and most recently, Brutal Legend; the latter of which is my favourite of them so far. Gameplay-wise, it's just like all the other hack-and-slash games, but I love the heavy metal part of it. :punk: (Yes, it's a punk, but that's the only smiley there)

I'm pretty certain that Bayonetta will not live up to Famitsu's 40/40 score. Yes, it's only the 12th game they've given a perfect score to, but some of them are questionable, mostly Nintendogs, and Metal Gear Solid 4. Oh, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

I got it of my japanese xbox live account since it's available on silver now.

Ahh, never mind then. I don't want to go through the hassle of doing multiple accounts on Xbox Live. It's a breeze on PSN though, so I did an American and Japanese one ages ago! :p
