d4rk5ky
Hey guys, So here's my problem, i am trying to setup Windows Media Center on Windows 7 to stream some HD (720p mkv) movies that i have to my Xbox 360 and am having some issues. Every time i try and play the movie it starts to load the video but then i get a "Video Error" message from WMC on my 360. It says "Files needed to display video are not installed or working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer." Now i have done both of these but to no avail. What i find strange is that i am able to watch TV Shows which are also 720p mkv with no problems at all. So i am just wondering if i am missing something or what needs to be done to get this working. Any help is appreciated :)
-=Outlaw=-
xbox will not play .mkv file. you need to convert that file into .wmv for it to work on the 360. there are other formats 360 will read. but i always convert them to .wmv :)
macrosslover
ps3 media server works..but you want a good connection, either wired or an external N wireless adapter.

I mean wouldn't it technically be the same, just larger file obviously, or are movies done with a completely different mkv codec?

Yes if you have 7 all you need to be able to stream .mkv to your 360 is the proper files from DivX Labs and you can stream, which is what iv stated a few times already. Trust me it works. The Xbox 360 will play pretty much any media if the Media Center/WMP can transcode the file.
d4rk5ky
fixed the problem, turns out you need to have the latest ac3filter installed because of the DTS audio that the movies put out.
