A "Banned Member Forum"....

Recommended Posts

Hey

I posted something in a website which was against the rules and I received a automatic 3 day ban which I agree with because I did not read that part of the rule. It was my mistake 100%.

But instead of being banned from the forums, I was redirected to a "Banned member forum" section where other banned members could talk/ask/view/etc about what they'd like with their post count disabled and sig/avatar as well all within that section. The rules in that section are that only banned members can see/post/view/etc in that section and no other member (registered or unregistered) can go in that section. Also some staff member can delete/edit/close/etc a thread made in that section however he'd like, regardless if the topic is fine or not. The intended reason for that section is if banned members would like to ask/talk about why they have been banned.

I understand that the section could get out of hand (It hasnt as far as I see in the other section, but Id would like it as it would be a nice additional and I personally loved it as here when you are banned, you can't PM, you cant view any forum, etc. With this type of ban, a banned member could only view/post/see/etc this "Banned member forum"

Woohoo Banned member forum, where the drama continues!

PM a mod.

On some bans, you can't PM either  I dont understand it myself but it is the way IPB works...

i would get myself banned to see what goes on in there

The mods would problably then ban you forever meaning you could only access that section and never ever view any other section again...

If someone is banned, isn't the whole reason why they're banned because they've broken site rules?

I dunno, could be cool I suppose.

Considering some of the mods here will raise/ban you for the stupidest things, it wouldnt take very much to see that banned forum

then again, if i wanted to see that, id go to 4chan

Someone could definitely correct me if I am wrong, but would this not negate the whole reason of banning people to begin with?

If you get banned, it means you and your attitude are no longer welcome, that is the most brutally honest way I can put it.

This would be the equivalent of being kicked out of for the sake of this example a restaurant, but that restaurant then creating a specific table for you inside that you can come to whenever you like because you are after-all not really kicked out, they just told you that, and now they have a special table just for you. It makes absolutely no sense.

Banned member forums are nothing more than a collective **** storm waiting to happen. If people were banned for breaking the rules, why give them another forum to post in? That doesn't teach them anything! That's like grounding a child from using the phone, but letting them on the Internet. A ban is a ban. If they break the rules, they don't post. Period.

Really bad idea really... and goes against the whole reason people get banned. Its like banning someone and then giving them the treat of their own little section for being banned...

Forum would be nice. Most of the time you PM a mod about a warning, get a generic response, and the warnings never go away. +1 for the forum.

As opposed to the forum where you write your essay, with included bitchy title, and every other banned member can rage out and reply in your topic as well?

Sounds like an easy environment for mods to control.

Go to a Supervisor if you're not happy with the decision a moderator makes. I'm talking from experience, they will review the decision, and agree/disagree.

Warnings drop automatically after following the rules for 6 months. If you're warning % goes up higher from there, I believe the time would just be reset.

Really? I don't consider myself the most polite member (I'm easily ticked off by stupidity), and I'm well aware that I've said some nasty stuff... but I've never been warned for it.

The only thing I have been warned for was being a bit mild towards someone calling them an "idiot". Learned from that point on that what I really wanted to say was that their entire post and/or view on the matter was idiotic, illogical, etc. :p

Live and learn.

Great analogy.

How about instead of banning person gets suspended, and then after lets say probation of 30 days in the suspended section. However if he gets suspended again its a ban and kick in the arse :)

What's so hard about following rules?

Anyway, a "banned member forum" would be a waste of bandwidth. A waste of the mods time. Really... just pointless.

Question: If someone is banned, do they ever have a chance of being un-banned?

Very well said, DirtyLarry. I must say, the whole idea of a special forum just for banned members seems a bit crazy in itself.

I visit a forum where it shows the banned members and what they were banned for, does to seem to make fun of them which probably most deserve but I don't think its nice.
