General Public: Windows 7 sucks!

Recommended Posts

Last night I was told that there have been 0 pre-orders

I don't know if that's so weird. The reality is that most computer users actually don't give a damn and aren't interested in paying a hundred bucks for something that will to them be a minor update to Vista (let's be realistic here). They upgrade when they buy a new computer.

Id place a fat juicy bet they are getting this from inside of their own rear anatomy!

complete and utter horsepooh, was quite amusing though.

@ SMELTN: You still never answered my question. But if you say so...

I haven't heard any complaints about 7... yet. Vista on the other hand, when that came out, the only thing that most non-computer enthusiasts knew was "I don't want it, it sucks because I heard it does."

I call fud. I just did a little test here in Windows 7:

1) Rebooted into the guest account

2) Rebooted back into my main account

3) All my files were still there.

So there's conclusive proof that it's nothing like OS X.

From what I gather, most people are anxiously awaiting 7. Most people I know run XP and they are way past ready to upgrade, but they were afraid of Vista. So they want 7 to be good and to do well. Only time will tell if they get their wish. Most of us here love it but we're fanboys anyway. When mom and dad love it and tell others about it, then we'll know the true tale.

i did a similar test

I went to the store for a computer that does everything i need and more, including gaming

It costed less than 1500, i couldn't believe it

Definitely not like OSX

My unscientific research is the opposite. People aren't interested in upgrading just the OS. They think of it as part of the computer, and upgrade the whole package at the same time. This is why getting and maintaining an OEM monopoly has been so important to Microsoft.

I'll hold on to XP forever like a moron unless they fix the issues I added in this and this page. I'm affected by almost ALL of the issues listed here except legacy/obsolete ones since I've almost entirely created the article myself as I discovered annoying removals.

Yea, I call FUD too. Except on you. It's not any guest account that'll cause it. Only guest accounts that were active under Leopard before an upgrade to Snow Leopard suffered from this bug, and even then it's a tiny subset of those upgrades. By the way, Time Machine rocks. Glad OS X has a comprehensive and easy backup solution for those instances when software doesn't work quite right.

Also, I tried to connect to an Exchange 2007 server on Windows 7 without installing Outlook. Turns out I still had to install something (Windows Live Mail) and it still didn't work unless I used Exchange's horrible IMAP implementation. Definitely not OS X. :p

That being said, Windows 7 is still great. I just think that Microsoft hasn't done a good enough job to shake the Windows Vista stigma yet. A cute little girl reading reviews isn't going to work after years of media bashing.

Maybe it's time you started looking for a different OS than Windows? The "issues" in question are design changes, and are never going to be "fixed."

Microsoft was use to having no competition so people didn't have anything to compare their OS to but now that they do people are realizing that Apple products are better for non-technical people which make up most of the population. Even I setup an old Mac G3 tower for my mom and she has never had any issues with it and enjoys it much more then the Windows PC's she had even though it's 10 years old. Let's just face it that OS X is better designed for the average person on the street to use which seems to be hard for people on a tech oriented site to realize. Yes Windows 7 is much better then Vista but Control Panel is still a complete mess, files are still scattered all over the hard drive, all app installs require wizards, and the interface is still overly cluttered. These things don't matter to power users on this site but to the average person it does and leads to word of mouth.

I would be cautious about these reports. There is a small but incredibly

vocal group of OS X and Linux users that will spend every waking moment

of their lives trying to undermine Windows.

If you go to some Windows blogs, a majority of the comments are made

by these people, and yet they constitute a tiny percentage of the group

of actual computer users (probably less than 5% combined).

I happen to think some of these characters are a bit obsessive and oddly

motivated.

Here is my take on Windows 7.

First of all, I have used Vista for almost 2 years now. The fact is, I still dislike Vista. I was thinking of going back to XP but now there's Windows 7. So I will give it a try. Now let's move on to what I think about Windows 7.

People had asked me, and I told them that supposedly, it's Vista on steroid. I told them Windows 7 looks and feels are very similar to Vista 'cept that Windows 7 is much more stable (presumably). Told them that many of the computer tech-savvy been praising a lot about Windows 7. As for my personal reference on Windows 7, since I didn't have a decent system, I would prefer XP for now.

My system spec for the time being is:

Asus P5ND32-SLi 775, Pentium D 3.4Gz EMT64 + HyperThread 3GB of RAM and a Raptor. Yet I have a bit of tough time on processor's resource hog on Vista in comparison to XP.

Wow, well done dude - you managed to spend 3 paragraphs saying absolutely nothing except you'd pick XP over 7. And what the hell?? I'm running Win 7 Ultimate on my poxy 2gig 1.4ghz laptop and it hums along perfectly. Either you're talking crap about "resource hog" with Vista (and thereby on 7), or you really don't know what you're doing with pcs.

Win 7 is an absolute joy and I've already been spreading the word at work today about it with folks geniuenly interested in seeing what it can do. Get it, and get rid of XP.

Someone at my work mentioned that Win7 was being released today, my coworkers' response ranged from "I see..." to "meh". I wouldn't expect any of them to go pick it up, maybe if they were buying new computers they'd get it (one of them bought a computer this summer and opted for WinXP over Vista).

As for myself well I've had access to it during the beta and to the rtm (Technet) since August......I tried it on my netbook and my main computer. On my computer it's still on there but I never really boot into it, I just don't have a need for it, and for the netbook well I had to wipe my OSx86 (small harddrive) so I don't have a choice. But it actually runs alright, does everything I need for the netbook but at the same time it doesn't make me want to use it on the main computer.

This is the worst post in the entire thread. So basically, you haven't used Windows 7, yet you're telling people that it's more stable? That you'd prefer XP, even though you haven't tried Windows 7? What is the matter with you? Your take on Windows 7 should be this: "I have no take on Windows 7 because I haven't tried Windows 7."

I have Windows 7 on a single-core laptop with 2 GB of memory. It runs fine. It's better than XP (which I liked). It's a lot better than Vista (which I didn't like). And that seems to be the prevailing opinion just about everywhere.

Also, I want to point out that a few customers coming into a single Canadian department store don't count as the "general public." Thread title is out of bounds.

The department store I work for has an electronics section where a few of my buddies are working. They have been having this Windows 7 promotion for the past week. Last night I was told that there have been 0 pre-orders and most customers that inquired about it had a negative view of it. He sais hes had quite a few customers coming in and claiming that Windows 7 is worse than Vista/XP. Theres even been a customer demanding the promotion cease due to "Microsoft blatantly copying OSX and just calling it 7".

Just out of curiosity, where are these people getting their information. The same thing happend with Vista BEFORE it was even revealed to the public. Like I know that all the tech savvy people like 7, most of them even liked Vista (havent met a computer enthusiast yet who has had problems with Vista), but then here come the others who don't even have legitimate access to the software, claiming its crap. Whats going on?

hmmm...Is that an Apple store?
