Cyber Akuma
As stated, I have a model MB139LL/A Mac Mini. I was looking at these: Set 1 Set 2 Out of all of these, the one that appears to be the best performance (CAS latency of 4 instead of 5) and still being highly rated while having the lowest price is this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231154 What worries me though is that the "Mac" memory (Yes im aware you don't need to use memory specified for a mac to have it work in a mac) is all Corsair and Kingston brands, and all the highest rated ones in general were G.Skill. My previous Toshiba laptop was VERY picky about what brand of ram I used in it, and I didn't want to run into the same issue with my Mac Mini. Would this ram work fine? Out of all of those choices, would this be the best one you would recommend or would you recommend a different one? Also, since I will be at 4 gigs of ram now, do I need to do anything special to run Snow Leopard in 64bit mode?
Elliott
I know for a fact that both G.SKILL and Crucial RAM work well in Macs, and all of those kits look good. As for running Snow Leopard in 64-bit, there's no need: 32-bit applications can address 4GB of RAM maximum, and you'll only be running a total of 4GB. Running the kernel in 32-bit gives you more hardware compatibility (because of drivers that aren't 64-bit yet) and doesn't limit the memory usage of 64-bit applications (they can use as much RAM as they want independent of the kernel). So, if you wanted to jack up to 8GB of RAM in the Mini (which I don't think it supports, unfortunately), then the 32-bit kernel would still work just fine. Any 64-bit app, like Safari, would still be able to address more than 4GB of RAM (that's a lot of tabs ).
