Alladaskill17
My roommates and I bought FIFA 2010 and for some reason, I dont know what I am doing differently from 2009 but I am getting my ass handed to me, other then a 4 - 1 score. We're all about the same skill level, my main concern is if I could be doing something different to dribble better, any tips?
Green_Eye
I know I used to be pretty bad because I would just spam the sprint button in 09 but quickly found out that does not fly too well in 10 so avoid doing that. Other then that try to anticipate and sort of do your turns before the opposing player is in range because I find once they get a certain distance they can just barge you off the ball. Alladaskill17
Yeah I am a huge fan of the sprint button, which isnt a good thing. Past few games just seems like I either get pushed off the ball far too easy (use Barcelona, my favorite team) when the players have the "skill" to do well. So either being pushed off too easily, or simply not being able to "fluently" maneuver around the defender. Would holding the left trigger (Xbox 360) while just running / simply movements improve accuracy like it would with special trick moves?
Donkey88
Being pushed off the ball is more about the strength of the players. If you try playing as Chelsea for instance you will usually find you can't be pushed off the ball, but you don't have the skill to easily get around players. Generally though, it's a lot harder in this game to just run at the defence and hope you'll get through, the focus is more on passing the ball around and creating chances. As for your left trigger question, it seems to keep the ball under better control but I wouldn't really use it as you'd probably just be an easier tackling target due to lower speed. Tel
i was in the same situation. opening weekend i played it on xbox live and at one stage i was a 12 game losing streak, i found myself chasing the ball ALOT. i have done a few season in manager mode since i got to grips with the game. now i found myself to be on a 9 game winning streak. best advice i can give is..... 1. Pass and move, don't try and out sprint players. keep the ball moving and don't be afraid to pass back to defends and keepers to keep posession. 2. Through ball works much better. i find 80% of through balls that i play always finds a striker. 3. When one on one with the keep don't use the finesse shot, just lace your boots through the ball 4. When you've lost posession don't run around like a headless chicken. Your back 4 will sit alot deeper than 09, let the opposition knock the ball around in the middle of the park as much as they want but when they push to the final third then step up in regards to defending. 5. When you do have possession don't be afraid to take the sting out of the game, knock 10/15 passes together and keep your oppoent chasing. Arsenal are a good team to play with when it comes to passing. the likes of Fabregas, Arshavin have great passing ability and not to mention both of the CB's are ranked 87. hope this helps. mistical
Are you working the ball a lot? If not, you need to. Start passing it more and less dribbling with one guy or trying to dribble around people, if you are doing that at all. Try focusing on your team rather than one player because one player will not win the game. I have no idea how you are playing, I am just offering tips. As you said already you are sprinting too much. You can't force it and just let the players do the work as a team. Holding LT is a pace control on many varieties. Also holding this while sprinting improves dribbling with special players. Which pretty much anyone from Barcelona is a special player.

Thats not true The game is more indept now, gone are the days of people kicking off and trying to run with eteo or Zultan, you have to play ball. And this is where people are starting to get found out. I would suggest you go and have a look at how you play and find a few different teams you can play with that have a style you play. My top teams are Sevilla, Man city, Espanyol, Barca, Brazil, spurs in that order.
mistical
Thats not true Explain how it is not true? Barcelona's top strikers are among the best in the game: Messi, Henry and Ibrahimovic. How are they not special? Plus they have other great players too.

Ok I dont think i have explained myself very well If you defend well they can not do anything, i have played loads of games when people have been barca and I have been sevilla, Man city or even espanyol and have pocketed all 3. It all depends on how you play your game, if you like to run with the special players all the time they get tired and worn out.
mail
90% of the time don't dribble in opponents half. Pass the ball to a good holder then wait, average to **** players will send a defender to you leaving gaps for players, good players will bring back their midfield then you have to move the ball back and frustrate. If a defender is out muscling you turn away from them so in the direction they are trying to push you this will retain ball possession. So every time you attack you always want to retain ball possession or get a shot. If their defence is backing away from you take long shots. Learn to use one twos (very important). Defending is easy always bring back midfield. Don't rush in with back line.

Out of the very few times I have ever decided to not easily quote a reply. Anyways, In his 2nd post if you happened to catch it. The 2nd paragraph of my original post was me answering his question to: "Would holding the left trigger (Xbox 360) while just running / simply movements improve accuracy like it would with special trick moves?". So it wasn't part of a tip necessarily for him to do often or to do so and just end up wearing your players out. Just merely replying to his question. Next time I'll remember to just quote it and move on. :) Also he states that Barcelona is his favorite team.
Alladaskill17
Lots of helpful stuff in here, tried to through ball suggestion so far, improved gameplay already, as well as a few other tips (passing less in opponents 1/2). I'm messing around against the computer while they're doing other things, practicing before we go out tonight.
darthmahon
I think a lot of the difference is down to the 360 controls which make it more difficult to shoot without taking your time. At least thats my experience so far. Also noticed I'm hitting the post/crossbar a LOT.

As everyone else has pretty much said, pass the ball around more rather than trying to dribble with it. Your players will try and make some runs so try and keep a look out for them. I'm liking the new FIFA as i've always been more about passing so it tends to suit me.
darthmahon
Like others have said I think passing if the key to this game, you can't simply knock the ball upfield and try and leg it past the defenders, it isn't going to work unless your 1 on 1 with a player like Ronaldo or Messi. If you do get the ball high up the pitch too quickly, just hold it up and wait for your players to catch up. Remember they can't score if you have the ball :)
