Cvrt7.62Ghst
I have been playing though Tom Clancy's Endwar of late, and stumbled on this at the end of the last mission: When did companies start doing this? Now I know what it is downloading when it checks a server every time you start the game. I don't think I have seen this kind of targeting before... anyone else? :/ Edited October 28, 2009 by Cvrt7.62Ghst
Ambroos
I've seen it happen before. As long as it isn't annoying I don't have a problem with it.
Nikv
I always wonder...Is it really worth the money to put an advertisement up like that when no one is really going to look at it and be like, oh cool, i'll check that product out.
Billus
I reckon it makes the game much more cool. Much better than having blank/gray spots as long as ads are of course, are placed realistically inside a game. Fifa should implement this instead of having that random slogon all the time. Besides, shouldn't this drag game prices down or is it just extra revenue for the game developers/publishers?
mokthraka
Need for Speed does this I think. I actually like it, it adds a bit of realism to the game.
Miuku.
Luckily you can pretty easily block all the ads by firewalling the crap out of them.

iamwhoiam
I personally think if ads are going to be in commercial games then those games should cost less.
Michael1406
That's what should happen, but is it likely that that's what will happen?
TheTempestSonata
Gran Turismo had it in GT2. Jet Moto had the whole Mt. Dew thing... ESPN X Games had it (Launch title with PS1) so yeah.
what
Battlefield 2142 was one of the first games to include dynamic in-game ads iirc... games have always had sponsors though.
Miuku.
I personally think if ads are going to be in commercial games then those games should cost less. The only people pocketing any money.. will be the publishers. Anyone who has any ideas about games costing less due to digital transfer or advertising should wake up to reality - they won't cost any less, if anything they will cost more in the future. +Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted October 28, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted October 28, 2009 Back to the 80's there has been advertising in games. Nothing new.
Tech Star
I think that its a good idea, but it depends on the genre. If it is a sports game, racing game, or an open real world game like GTA then its good because it adds to the realism. If it's a shooter then no. BF2142 had Intel Core 2 ad's everywhere and I didn't like it. :/
John Freeman
The first i remember seeing this was NFS Unerground. Dont really mind.
Gabe3
same, the first game I remember having them in that I was playing was BF2142. it looked strange, some games they look good in, not that one though. I also remember rainbow six vegas 2 had them.
Madoshi
GT2 first thing that came to mind, with all the banners along the fences keeping the crowds back on most of GT2's racetracks i think ATV Offroad Fury had adverts too
Alley Cat
Advertisments in games is an old idea. Tapper (also known as Root Beer Tapper, and Budweiser Tapper) is a 1983 arcade game released by Bally Midway.
