DJ Hero

Damn this game is awesome. I particularly love Eric Prydz Pjanoo remix at the beginning. Such a good remix.

I think the game is worth ?90 and is awesome for parties. What do you guys think about the game?

And no it's not just another Hero game. This has had a lot of attention paid to it, and the songs are pretty darn good imo.

I played it in HMV today, and it is bloody brilliant! The mixes are very well done. I played about 8 of them, and liked them all, especially the Gwen Stefani "Hollaback Girl" vs. Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc." mix. I was a bit disappointed that not all the songs are unlocked from the start (well at least in the store there was no quickplay mode), as I really wanted to try out the Daft Punk songs.

It's very tricking getting the hang of controlling the turntable, but in the end, I managed to get a couple of 4* songs on Expert, so I'm getting there! :)

I'm not sure if it's worth ?90 though. I'm not even sure if it's worth ?80, which is the cheapest I've found it. If I can sell my Zune, I'll almost certainly snap it up as soon as I get the money. Failing that, I'll wait for it to come on offer or find a decent second-hand one.

How about you add a little more money and get a proper turntable?

Because I don't want to actually become a DJ; I just like playing the game. Yes, a real turntable is cheaper, but it ends up being more expensive once you factor in the costs of all the vinyl records you have to buy.

Ideally, this would be a better investment (probably):

I played this at Best Buy and it is awesome. I'm not the type of gamer that would play Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but damn. This game was pretty fun to play. I have to admit though, I didn't think much of it at first. Of course that was until I actually tried it.

Simply put, I'd buy it if I had $129.99 to spare.

I was thinking about getting the Renegade Edition, but the cheapest price for that is ?130, so definitely no. And the bonuses on it don't really justify the ?169.99 RRP. You get a case which doubles up as a stand, the turntable part of the controller has a glossy black finish, so it attracts fingerprints, the crossfader and effects dial are fnished in gold metal instead of plastic, and you get what is essentially greatest hits albums (with one or two exclusive tracks) from Jay-Z and Eminem.

So yeah, definitely not worth the extra ?70 RRP. Realistically, they should have retailed the standard edition for ?80, then put the Renegade Edition up for ?120.

when they make a pink floyd themed rok band or hero ill bite....

rock band Pink Floyd

It's a good idea, for sure. Pink Floyd is one of a very small list of artists worthy of getting their own game, but if it happens, I'd prefer it be done by Guitar Hero, as they have the better track record with band-centric games, especially with GH Metallica. GH Van Halen looks pretty good as well.

Yeah that's what I did, I pre-ordered it, then I saw it in the window (the actual turntable controller) and thought, "oh, it's a kids game" because the actual controller looks quite cheap. BUt damn it's so much fun because you have a lot of control over the song. And I LOVE the Pjanoo remix, that song is SICK!

I'm not regretting the ?90 for it, worth every penny

Does anyone else here think that Activision are charging to much for the DLC? The first pack was released on release day (October 27th), there's only two songs and they're charging 480MSP for them. I'm finding it very hard to judge whether it's a rip-off or not, as it's not like Guitar Hero. It's not really two songs, it's two mixes with two songs mixed in each one, so if you look at it that way, it probably is good value, as four seperate GH/RB songs at 160MSP each would be 640MSP. I've no idea how much one mix on its own is though.

I'll probably end up getting the first mix pack anyway, as it's "All of Me" by 50 Cent f. Mary J. Blige vs. "Radio Ga Ga" by Queen, and then it's "DARE" by Gorillaz vs. "Can't Truss It" by Public Enemy. Considering how good the mixes on the disc are, I think I'll end up buying extra mixes even if there's just one songs I like on there! :p

And if anyone's interested, the next mix pack is a David Guetta one. Three mixes; three of his songs, but they haven't announced what songs they're gonna be mixed with. It's "When Love Takes Over" (feat. Kelly Rowland), "Sexy Chick" (feat. Akon), and "On the Dance Floor" (feat. will.i.am and apl.de.ap)

Umm...real DJ turntables are NOT cheaper. You would also need a mixer. For DJing you need direct drive turntables, the more torque the better. I spent $800 canadian on EACH of my Numark TTX1 turntables (have 2) and $900 on my Stanton SA-8 mixer and about the same on my Rane Empath mixer. Sorry but there is no way you can pick up even a crappier setup that will make-do for less than this game costs.

I'm not sure how much you need just for basic DJ'ing. If you can get away with just one turntable for starters, then it is cheaper than DJ Hero, as there's one here for ?74.90 and it does have a few features (10% pitch increase/decrease, three speeds, shutdown, reverse, start/stop buttons).

Belt drive turntables are fail. You want direct drive, preferably Technics 1200/1210. My whole setup cost me around $1,500 (including stand, needles, mixer, etc.). Factor in that I have about 4,000+ records. Might get Serato for my laptop so I can play my mp3's.

You won't be able to get away with one turntable to DJ, you need at least two audio sources, which is one of the drawbacks (for me) of DJ Hero... 50% of DJ'ing is control of the music, something this game doesn't give you.

Someone wrote "this will do for turntables and DJ'ing what Guitar Hero did for guitars" -- I would add this will do for DJ's what Guitar Hero did for guitar players.

You can't compare DJ Hero to a a proper DJ setup. Don't even try to, it's a simulation, but it's a fun simulation. Why does everything have to be so serious? It's a game... You wouldn't contemplate buying a real gun and walking round the streets shooting the **** into people would you? Fine, don't answer that some smart ass will go "yes"

Agreed. Just like the guitar games. At a pinch, the drums and vocals are nearly realistic, but still have their flaws; the drums being that there aren't enough of them in the kits, and the vocals being a bit lenient.
