Yamy
Hello I'm really interested in playing WoW , problem is i have got no idea how to start playing, also i found out there like 3 versions of the game :o , so I'm quite confused, also how the payment options works do i have to buy cards or i can just pay via visa card for example. Also how to chose your favorite classes cos it like lots lool, unlike my old MMORPG game which was like 4 vocs only :D, also i got like 1M internet speed dunno if it's ok or not. And yeah last question do i have to buy the full retail game box or i can just download the game from the website ? :D Yours Yamy :)
Rodrigo
I'd recomment downloading the trial which grants you 10 days of play. Download the classic version since Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King are the two expansions of the game. You can pay with game cards (you can buy them online but probably will receive your code after one day), credit and debit cards. When you are about to create your char, read the description of each class to the right and then read the race description. The Internet speed will do, don't worry. You can buy the "key" (it's the digital upgrade) from Blizzard's page and download the full game from there.
Rigby
The trial would be the best way to start, that way you can try it out for free and see if you like it. Personally I wish I could go back in time and slap myself for ever starting to play this overpriced time sink of a grindfest. The ridiculous Hallow's End achievement "Sinister Calling" which is luck based and impossible to get finally made me cancel it. Never again. ylcard
Aside from TRC's trial suggestion you should ignore him. There's so much to do with WoW that it'll take you a long time to try everything properly, and if you're not prepared to invest time in WoW then don't bother paying for it mate, as it does require quite a bit of time invested in it... There are two popular fan sites, MMO-Champion and World of Raids that you might want to visit, they have a.. err.. "questionable" community at best, as any WoW community, but there are helpful people there as well. WoW is much better when you're playing with friends, or at least in a group, playing alone is possible but it's not as much as as playing with someone. Yamy
Thanks for help guys =) I will see how thing will go, i suppose i will stick with my old online game then, but i think i will give it a shot, who knows :p
Rigby
Yes, if you don't agree with someone's opinion you should tell everyone to ignore them. Yeah there's a lot to do in wow, unfortunately it's all very repetitive and pointless. That's my opinion, yours may be different. I loved the game when I first started but after 5 years and 15 level 70s it gets unbearably boring. Rigby
You should have gone with friends. That's how we all got the items. Our guild ran it every day for the last two weeks at least 10 times a day (plus the trick or treating every hour) and we never got the helm and squashling. A few got one or the other but the drop rate is so incredibly low it's just ridiculous to have the meta achievement require it.

I don't think it's totally fair to say you shouldn't bother paying for it if you don't have the time to invest in the game - Blizzard themselves have said the game can be played all day, or for an hour a day. Sure if you want to become top in the game, in a top guild with the best gear, that definitely requires a huge amount of time. But if you just want to play to enjoy the experience, level up and then run an instance or two (which will become even easier with the new patch and the new LFG system) then that requires as much time as you want to throw at it. And the expansion packs are just that really, and not something you really need to worry about until you hit the higher levels, just work on getting to level 20 first. I think you should definitely give it a go, do the trial as suggested and if you enjoy however much time you put into the game (even if that is an hour a day, 5 hours a week) then the money you pay is worth it. BetaAddict
lol dude you really made me wanna try the game so bad xD Ditto. I am about to graduate in the spring and have been putting off WoW and even DOTA for a couple semesters now. Because I know that once I start playing, I will find it hard to stop until I get pretty good and hit some major milestones milestones in the game. Must...resist...temptation... WigglesTheFish
My suggestion: play a druid. That way if you don't like tanking you can always heal, be ranged caster DPS, or melee DPS all only a respec away!

I think this is a common misconception. People who know how to manage their lives well and prioritize what is most important to them will do just fine. Though, it is just a matter of how you approach the game. I am probably going to start by playing DOTA anyway before I even bother about WoW. Fid
DO NOT PLAY THE GAME!!!Be prepared to have you life wasted away if you do. - crazzy88ss exWoW player of 3 years. Ahhhh don't be silly. When people say this it does make me laugh... nevermind 'wasting' your life (you did have fun playing the game right... so how is that exactly a waste) be more disappointed in yourself for having no self control. I play WoW when I'm sat at home doing nothing - how is that any worse than just sitting around watching TV, or a movie? It's not. Just have a bit of self control and don't kill your entire social life to play the game (which if you're intending not to play for 15 hours a day, shouldn't be too much of a problem!). Skyfrog
Trouble is wow is intentionally designed to be a time sink. In order to get anywhere you have to play as much as possible, and then some. Even worse you never actually get anywhere, level 80 is no different than level 10. You are still doing the same thing, grinding and running dungeons and raids to get better gear, so that you can use it to...get better gear. Prosidius
Alright heres how the expansions work out: Vanilla WoW The base original game. You get access to all of azeroth minus the draenei & Blood elf starting lands, and Northrend. You can create any race minus Blood Elve's and Draenei. The level cap is 60 and grants access to all level 1-60 raids and dungeons. You can play AV, WSG and AB BG's only. Professions are capped at 300 skill. The Burning Crusade Grants access to Outland(accessed via dark portal @ 58) to level from 60-70. Adds in Eye of the storm battleground and every instance/raid in Outland and 2 dungeons in normal azeroth. Will also allow you to play Blood Elves and Draenei. Can also use the Jewelcrafting profession. The arena PvP system is also available. Grants access to flying mounts(but not in azeroth). Professions capped @ 375 skill. Wrath of the Lich King Grants access to Northrend to level from 70-80. Can play the new Death Knight Hero class(need a level 55 to create one however). Strand of the ancients and Isle of conquest are the new BG's in this expansion. Every raid and dungeon located in Northrend is available for play(minus icecrown which is coming this winter). Professions capped @ 450 skill. For classes, there'll be 9 you can play and you have to ask yourself what you want to do @ 80. DPS? Heal? Tank? Classes are ordered like this: Caster DPS - Elemental Shamans, mages, warlocks, shadow priests, balance druids Melee DPS - Rogues, Warriors, Death Knights, Paladins, Feral Druids Ranged DPS - Hunters Tanks - Protection warriors, Protection Paladins, Feral Druids, Death Knights Healers - Holy Paladins, Holy Priests, Restoration Druids, Restoration Shamans As you can see Druids and Paladins can play Tank/Healer/DPS so there a hybrid class. Priests have 2 healing roles and 1 DPS role. Hunters, mages, rogues, warlocks are considered "pure" because they can only do 1 thing...dps. As for trying out WoW, get someone to RaF you(Refer a friend), then if you level up with him/her you'll earn triple experience and hit 60 in less than 2 days /played. The unfortunate thing about WoW and most MMO's in general is the game doesnt actually start till 80. It's totally different at the level cap. I can RaF you if you want. Vice
WoW is a bit like a roller coaster. You work and work to get to the top then you have a little bit of fun on the way down then you work and work to the top again. The problem is for each 9 pieces of work you do, you will only get 1 bit of fun. The game is designed to keep you playing (and paying) for as long as possible. It continually rewards you to keep you playing but the rewards are really insignificant when you actually look at it. The best way to enjoy the game is get a buddy and play it together. If you don't play it with a friend or join a guild with good chat you will soon lose interest in the game. But beware the game can be addictive if you have an addictive personality do not buy it because you will get sucked in. Good luck.
Prosidius
All MMO's are like that. There of course going to dangle stuff in front of you to get your $15 month after month. The best thing to do is ask yourself "Am I having fun?" and if you arent cancel, but if you are continue playing. $180 a year for a game that offers so much entertainment value is amazing, MMO's are really good values.
