360 Elite and HDTV question.

Nope, just plug in the HDMI cable and select the resolution you want it to run at on the 360 and your good to go pretty much :) I'm not aware of anything else that needs to be done?

Yes, since the new Elites do not come with HD Component cables(shame :() You can get an HDMI Cable.

Im picking up a PureVue from Sams Club for my new COD System. I have component cables but im giving those away with my system when I sell it, and I like less cables behind my tv since I plan on mounting it on the wall.

Basically this HDMI cable is Shielded and Gold Plated. Best cable to get. Cant be bent(loose quality) and rust/break. Clear picture and good reviews from 6 people i know who bought it. You dont need to spend Monster Cable Prices to get a nice cable equal to monster cables.

Nope, as long as you have an HDMI cable, you are all good to go! Just make sure when you get it, the 360 picks the right resolution. This can be found in the console settings.

Ugh,

I am reading this stuff correctly? I have to get a special HDMI cable for the 360? Or will any HDMI Cable do? If so where does it get connected at the 360?

Any HDMI cable should work so no need to worry about any special cables :) And it gets connected at the usual rear of the 360.

You don't need to pay M$ for their ***** overpriced cable, just get a cheap one. The one I got is here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/4Gamers-17-1402-HD..._srch_res_rtr_1

Super cheap and the quality is great, I know it says PS3 in the title, but HDMI is the same for all devices. Couldn't be simpler, just plug one end into the 360 and the other in your TV, Robert is your father's brother.

P.S. Just watch out for length, make sure you get a long enough cable for your set up.

Oh ok, Yeah I just checked I have to disconnect the normal cables to connect the HDMI.

Will I really notice a difference in gaming with an HDTV and HDMI?

I've never played a game before on an HDTV. So this is all new to me.

Every elite came with an HDMI port and I know you bought the latest one, so it should be under the big port like normal. There should be a small port under it. Look at a picture of the HDMI cable / port and it should be there.

Also, @Smashing while that is true, cheap cables can break / are prone to bending easier. I know many people who bought walmart cheapo 7feet $10 cables and they either ended up being hard to get out, or breaking. 1 person had it break in there tv and used pliers to get it out. Others have had bent theres on accident through moving or cleaning and it ruined the quality of the cable, it was obivious.

So i would trust myself on getting a semi or heavy duty cable for a reasonable price.

YES!!!!!!!!!!

even just going from component to HDMI on my 360 i saw a change in how vibrant colors were(which I wasn't expecting). Going from a regular TV to a HD will make a large difference.

Since your running off normal A/V(480p), running 720 or 1080 will be a BIG change. When I got my HDTV last year, hooked up components and set it to 1080p, it was the best experience ever. Everything looks so BEAUTIFUL.

Edit: Ah my bad, I meant HDMI port. Sorry dude.

Ahh ok, yeah my HDTV is going to be Sony Bravia L Series 32-inch KDL32L5000 720p.

Luckily it has three HDMI ports. They'll all be full.

HD Cable, Blu ray, and Xbox.

Oh dear :p Like Sikh says there is a huge difference in image quality. Colors are more vibrant than ever and I remember when I first got my 360 last year (a day before Christmas lol) I played Dead or Alive 4 on SD until after Christmas bought a HDMI cable and I can tell you how beautiful those DoA female fighters are... :p :shiftyninja:

^ Yeah, then we all would be so pimped out lol.

If they did make an add on that wasnt expensive, like $100 except the hd-dvd wasnt worth it, but this one would be, then I would buy it right away. Worth it my opinion.

But, so far im fine, havent played anything in blu ray as my dvds look great as is and most of the stuff I stream on Netflix is HD.

Maybe when I actually watch a blu ray and see the difference ill go buy one. Not saying blu ray is bad, but im fine with dvds at this point

I heard that HDMI cable quality was a myth, I bought a very cheap one and the display looks great.

Yep, it is a complete myth. HDMI is a digital connection just 1s and 0s, it either works perfectly or not at all. The quality of the cable has nothing todo with it. People who claim the expensive cables do make a difference need their eyes checked!

HDMI is one of the greatest things to happen to TVs and game consoles.

One cable, one socket.

none of that red, yellow, white, green, red, blue crap i had to deal with component

For me it was like being blind all my life and finally being able to see. Thats how much a difference I thought it was. I cant even look at non-hd tv anymore because it looks like crap to me.

I went from SD telly, to 1080p about 2months ago - And I could not believe the huge difference :)

I currently go through VGA cable at 1920x1080, and it's brilliant. I do it this way, because my Xbox doesn't have a HDMI port.

Purchase your cheap and great quality HDMI cables from monoprice.com. I've used them for years and I'm pretty sure many people on this forum have also.

So what are you doing for your Audio? Are you just using the sound straight from your TV or do you have a reciever?

If so, do you have a reciever is it capable of doing both the audio and video from an HDMI connection?

If not, you may want to consider hooking up an optical cable for your audio (if your receiver supports it), and I just recently purchased this adapter from Amazon so I could do optical for my Turtle Beach headphones. I have that running with my HDMI at the same time doing audio and no issues.

Or if your reciever or speakers just does RCA, that connector does it as well.

Of course you may just have your TV going out to a reciever, that is another option as well I believe. But not sure if you are then losing the 5.1 sent from the XBox itself as it needs to then pass through your TV. That I do not know much about.
