gamerboy
I was wondering how much bandwidth xbox live uses per hour while playing a multiplayer game? My university recently put in a bandwidth cap of 5gb and I need to know how much XBL uses approximately. Thanks gamerboy
HawkMan
What, only one linux distro a month.... anyway, it would depend on the game(s)
gamerboy
Sorry I wasn't clear. That is a cap per week. Was wondering if i need to be worried about going over if a play xbl for like 3 hours a day and then playing a MMO too?
HawkMan
Neither of them alone should. or together. I doubt even downloading pics, cars, designs movies and whatever in forza3 and Halo 3 would bring you past that.
dafin0
for a game like halo (only one iv really checked to see) its about 60MB per hour, also note that if your ISP charges for upload you will be using about 120MB per hour
George P Global Moderator Posted November 4, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted November 4, 2009 I suppose the best thing to do is setup some sorta network monitor if you can? It'd be easy if the 360 connected to your PC and then to the internet using something like windows ICS. For a router though, I guess if it's got built in stats, which they often do, it could say, so just keep track of that so you don't go over the cap per week. t0mbi
My 360 connects through my PC to the router (bridged connections, 2 NICs) Is there a program i could use to monitor it? I'd like to know how much i use :p
George P Global Moderator Posted November 4, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted November 4, 2009 Something like netlimiter probably, since that can monitor/limit, per app on your PC. It should pick up the traffic coming into your 2nd NIC from your 360. There's probably others but that comes to mind first.
Solixis
If your university/res lets you use a router. Try using one of the routers that allow custom firmware such as the WRT54G* line. Then put DD-WRT or your custom firmware of choice on it. I know DD-WRT lets you track your usage by month and it shows a graph that lets you see your usage
spenser.d
I wouldn't be too worried. My university had a 5GB cap one year and I never ran into any problems, and I gamed quite often then. -Spenser
Aergan
If you're worried about bandwidth usage, just unplug it from LAN/WLAN when you don't need it to be on Live. All achievements get uploaded the next time you go on.
