My mate's 360 died..i might buy it..

Recommended Posts

SO anyways...my friends 360 died. Apparently it doesn't turn on and has TWO RED LIGHTS....

I can buy it off him for 100 dollars with the cables and HDD..is it worth it?

Is that covered by MS's warranty? It's just under two years old.

Or maybe something i can fix my self (like the RROD repair kit)

Any help would be great :D

Yes, that means it is overheating and if its doing that as soon as the console turns on it means there is no longer proper contact between the GPU and the Heatsink. It also means its likely to soon have the RROD or E74 error since the overheating will also cause the BGA to weaken.

Most "modders" can fix both issues for you using an Xclamp or other kit; however be forewarned that unless you know someone who is capable of doing a full reflow for real...not using stupid tricks like towels or heatguns, then the console won't last another year or two and will constantly need to be fixed.

If you have to ask you probably shouldn't even try.

You could probably find a good deal on a working unit from Craigslist or local pawnshops. It may cost you a bit more but it will work, and if you look hard enough you might be able to find a package deal that will allow you to sell some of the accessories you don't need to lower the overall cost.
