+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted November 12, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted November 12, 2009 The guys over at Polyphony Digital have revealed the exact sales figures, worldwide, for the Gran Turismo series. The total, the figure at the very bottom: 53,000,000 units across all territories and all formats. Staggering. Figures (which we can only assume include digital downloads, too) are correct as of September this year, although we can't imagine many more copies of Prologue have been sold since. GT5 has a bit of work to do to beat GT3, bloody crazy numbers for that game.

Richard Hammond
Was the first "Next Gen" Gran Turismo on the PS2, GT2 was PS1.

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted November 12, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted November 12, 2009 What does GT3 has so particular? Probably first "next gen" GT. People got GT1/2, got familiar with the series on PS1 then went "OMGZ PS2 GRAPHICS WUT" and all bought GT3 to show off the PS2. GT3 came out 1 year into the PS2s lifespan, so it was at a time the console was beginning to boom, but the trade off for that was it had substantially less tracks/cars than the other titles. Elessar
If they can get the damage modeling right for GT5, I think they'll have a hit, that's really the only thing holding them back from directly competing with modern sim racers.
Corris Veteran Posted November 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted November 12, 2009 Didn't know GT5 Prologue sold over 4 million, thought it was around 1-2, surprised by that.

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted November 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted November 12, 2009 GT3 is the best racing game ever made. Yeah I know quite a few people who will agree with you on that. My really good friend who I have known for 20 years now, and this is years back, he really never touched video games, used to actually make fun of us guys who did, but when we hung out at his house, all him and his roomates would do was play GT3. I mean those insanely long what seemed to be like 10 hour races, whatever they were I am not sure as I never played it, and he was so damn into it and precise with it all that it honestly blew my mind. Again, hated all other games, but spent so, so much time just on Gran Turismo 3. At the time too I hated it with a passion, as I sucked at it big time and did not care to learn how to play it. It did not help he would turn everything off use manual transmission etc. etc., so every-time I tried it at his house I was using his pro controller setup and not realizing back then he had made it like that on purpose. I just thought the controls were that bad.
sn00pie
Yeah, those endurance races were a pain in the ass. I really hope GT5 can bring back the type of excitement GT3 had, sadly GT4 wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be.

chicken-royal
Didn't know GT5 Prologue sold over 4 million, thought it was around 1-2, surprised by that. Me too. Presume the figures include copies of the game included in hardware bundles, that's how I got GT5 Prologue.
