Hot
Hi guys, I'm testing out Windows 7 on VMware 3.0 and Parallels 5.0, and it would appear that not only is VMware significantly slower, but it also fails to produce a sharp image. I'm attaching a screenshot of the two virtual machines side by side and the difference should be pretty clear. Both are running at exactly 1024x768 resolution. The machine is a new MacBook Pro with GeForce 9400M and GeForce 9600M GT video cards. Any suggestions?
Guest xiphi
Looks fine to me.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted November 14, 2009 Veteran Share Posted November 14, 2009 Heh, that's strange, everything else is clear apart from the window borders. Probably due to differences in how Parallels and VMware handle DirectX and their drivers.
Guest xiphi
Upon closer inspection, the only difference I noticed was the caption buttons, and the window borders like The_Decryptor said.
Hot
Yes, it is just the Aero elements, as I mentioned in the thread title. I'd like to get to the bottom of it though because it seems like I'm missing something about VMware. Every poll I check people vote for it over Parallels, but my experience is the complete opposite. Commodore Max
It looks like it's having trouble scaling ... might have something to do with the DPI settings.
WastedJoker
Should've gone to Specsavers.
sonyman
For the performance issues, are you running Mac OS X 10.6.2? 10.6.2 brought performance improvements in the Nvidia drivers.
Hot
Thanks for the suggestions. I checked the DPI settings but they are default at 100% in both virtual machines. I was running OS X 10.6.1 and updated to 10.6.2 but it doesn't seem to have made the VMware virtual machine any faster or more responsive.
AltecXP
I just don't see a single difference in the picture. They look identical to me.

Raa
It's definately blurry, but geez, only slightly. Good question : What happens if you try using bootcamp?
Hot
Just an update: This was a known issue with the WDDM driver included with Fusion 3.0. The issue appears to be solved in Fusion 3.0.1.
