VMware Fusion 3.0, Windows 7 and Boot Camp

Recommended Posts

I have installed Windows 7 Professional 64bit via Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro and it runs superbly and activated fine.

However, when I boot that partition with VMware it asks for activation again due to hardware changes.

With previous versions of Windows, installing VMware Tools allows you to re-activate it fine with the same license but I've tried this method to get the same activation error.

Anyone experiencing the same problem? Or have a solution for it?

I'm also considering trying Parallels instead if VMware cannot provide a fix for it.

Hi shivs

I found something I hope is relevant. The thread can be found here: http://bit.ly/1QokLf

Quote:

Install on boot camp -> activate on boot camp -> install vmware (vmware video telling you to install their software and not the competition, i know shocking) -> start windows on vmware -> install vmware tools -> restart when promted -> start windows once more on vmware -> activate windows while running on vmware.

You?ll likely have to start from scratch to make this work, but in the end you?ll get the desired results.

Hope this helps
