Define "steal my internet". If you're using wireless, turn that sucker off. Otherwise, use WPA2 and set a password.

how do i turn it off?

i have the PC & the xbox 360 connected to the modem through the router

wireless or wired? anything would work if using wpa2 (so long that it isnt common like password).

How bout

T0r0nt0102608

toronto and your join date. make it something simple that you can remember but pretty hard for a standard brute force to figure out quickly.

You want more secure you can use this:

http://www.pctools.com/guides/password/

I don't really understand the question other than that. If I didn't answer your question properly please go into depth as to what you need, perhaps using examples.

it is a wireless router with ethernet cables going into the PC and the xbox 360, making it a wired setup. i hope thats clear.

i just want to know is there any way to stop someone else from using their laptop or something and stealing my internet connection?

lol n00b. jks! :)

Check the quick reference guide or manual for the ip, username and password to login to it.

You'll just use the web browser to login to it on your desktop pc! (Y)

"WPA2 with 63 char password, Complex and hidden SSID name, MAC addressing, non standard IP subnet, no DHCP..."

Everything you stated other than WPA2 is pure nonsense.. MAC filtering is not a security feature, so unless you want to use it to control which machines on your network can use the internet its utterly pointless and makes it just harder for you to access your own network.

Same goes with trying to hide the SSID -- this is impossible to do and again just makes it harder to use your own network.. As to being complex -- nonsense, UNIQUE sure - but does not have be complex.

As to nonstandard ip or no dhcp server -- utter freaking FUD and again just makes it harder to use your own network.

As to 63 characters -- Freaking way overkill, and again just makes it harder to access your own network.

The only thing you got anywhere close to right is WPA2, a secure PSK of say 20 characters is clearly more than enough.. 12 is prob sufficient -- if you want to overkill it than say 20.. But 63 is just pointless.

If your not using the wireless - then just turn off the radio.

If you want wireless to be an option for you or your friends, etc. Then leave it and yes change the default SSID to something UNIQUE, and use WPA or WPA2 (if your hardware supports it) and use a secure PSK, +12 should be fine. And yes broadcast your SSID it will make it easier for you to use.

But since your machines are wired to it - and your worried about people using your wireless -- just disable it. See check box I highlighted on your interface.

edit: Just noticed you don't know how to log into your router?? JFC -- Read the Manual then!! Here real quick -- put the IP address of your router into your browser.. username is admin, password is blank -- which you should prob change..

I'm back again with a question. I'm trying out the D-Link DI-524 router this time and I'm going through the configuration page for it and I'm looking to disable the wireless again but i can't seem to find the checkbox. Maybe its called something else on the site. If anyone can help me out, you can go to http://192.168.0.1

to begin with, you must have a standard user name and password to gain access to your router. You then set your own password. If you enable protection then you must select which strength you wish to enable and make a password according to the protocol used.

I just logged in and turned off your wireless, but for some reason my wireless doesn't work when yours is turned off. So, in the end, you're going to have to have wireless enabled so I can use the interwebs...

This thread belongs in the jokes section. It's hilarious.

C'mon guys, this person is sincerely asking for help here!! There's been jaunting @ this person for the better part of an hour now. The least that you can do is sincerely help/tutor this person, who clearly is not a tech/electronics enthusiast or guru (like most of us).

Guilt trips and self-gratification aside, the OP said back in post 18 that things were working to his/her satisfaction, thus any need for additional help was negated. At such time, jest within the realms of Neowin rules and guidelines are allowed. ;)
