Could this laptop run CS Source?

Recommended Posts

Basically, I'm getting a new Laptop. Gaming isn't my main priority on this thing but as I love my games, being able to play some games on there would be great. I have a few laptops really that I'm wondering would run CS Source. The last one I'm almost certain would run it, just wondering how well it would run it.

First one is here.

Second one is here.

Third one is here.

My last system was an nVidia 8600GS running on a 2.4Ghz C2D with 2GB RAM + Vista, so if I could get some comparisons to that as well I'd love that. I've been looking around for some GPU-Z screens or some basic stats, and found some but asking for some extra advice from people who are probably more knowledgeable then I am (Y)

Thanks in advance.

As you probably know the source runs pretty well on lower speced system.

First system:

I'd say playable at low-medium gfx. 3100 would be the bottleneck.

Second system: Slightly worse than the first due to intel gfx although the 3100 isn't much better. Would probably run it but not much else.

Third system: I'd say maybe 25% faster than your old 8600gs based system.

Your old system would destroy the first two in games but the third option would be a slight upgrade.

I'm pretty sure the x3100 in the first system is integrated gfx along with the second which are whats killing them. Hope this helps.

Yeah, this pretty much confirms what I was thinking. As long as I get around the same performance as my 8600GS I'm a happy man. It does look like I'm gonna have to go for the ?499 one, I was just hoping to save a bit of money is all! Many thanks for the responses guys.

And yes, I get that concept!:

might be best to wait until after xmas if possible and try to catch a bargain in the sales.

The third one would play CS:S easily. I have CS:S installed at home on a Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 512MB RAM, NVidia GeForce MX440, and it works fine :p

I think all of them would play it okay, but the third one would be the best.

Generally a new system would run CS:Source no problems. As long as it has dedicated graphics you'll be fine. ;)

I've had it running on a Pentium 4 3Ghz, 512 MB RAM and a Radeon X600.

No, I'm not lying. Why would I? That was the first PC I ran it on. The system requirements for CS:S are very low.

Minimum: 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Recommended: 2.4 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Yeah, I was thinking that although waiting until after xmas makes me cry :( Plus I don't want to lose this Laptop like I did this one here, it was there one week and gone the next, it was only ?400 too:(( If I definitely knew what prices were coming when in the January sales I'd hold off, but I don't:// Anybody know what kind of prices I'd expect for a laptop with that kind of spec (the third one) during the january sales?

I ran it on a system just like that. The graphics are no better than the original CS and it runs in DX7 mode.

The thing is, even though CS:S does not have the latest source engine, they released numerous updates which REALLY slowed down the game for old video cards, even if using in DX7 mode which, by the way, is now blocked by most, if not all, servers because it could be exploited with wall hacks and such.

Edit: So yeah, you could have played CS:S on a MX 440 very well back then. Today is a very different story, though.

The Acer should be able to play the game. But don't expect anything great.

I got a Acer Aspire 6930G with a ATI HD 4660 and get around 60-120 fps (depends on how many are on the server and stuff) But then again, other newer games with way more details runs a lot better as CS: Source.
