ozgeek
I am very glad about increase of captioning in gaming seeing that I'm a hearing impaired gamer. Unfortunately some game companies don't bother to. I just got Assassin Creed (xbox360) but all I hear in that game is garble talk (talk like babies). Just got Ghost Recon WF2 too and that is the same. Can't understand what to do. I walking around the map working out what to do. I believe I do have the right return the games if they don't work for me. Any games no captions included is classed as "broken". Should MS or any other publishers make it clear whether a game supports captions or not on the case so I can see it before I pay rather than "guess". +Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted November 27, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted November 27, 2009 I often feel that game labelling leaves a lot to be desired. A unified icon system for such things would certainly help!
acnpt
I'm not hearing impaired, but I'd like to see all games include captions. I tend to turn them on as much as possible now, as sometimes I have the volume on low, radio on, or can't understand what the **** their saying  I think they should show clearly on the back of the box if they offer captions or not, it isn't hard. I also think you should be intitled to a refund, as most people expect games to have captions now?
WastedJoker
I use subtitles and my hearing is fine - some of the audio levelling in games is atrocious especially as vital mission information is often only disseminated via speech and can be very hard to grasp when there is explosions etc happening at the same time

I've played quite a few games where explosions or background in game noise has completely muted what im supposed to be hearing.
Azusa
this. I've played quite a few games where explosions or background in game noise has completely muted what im supposed to be hearing. but in games that involve warfare that kinda adds to the realism. So just out of curiosity, have you tried returning a game yet because it did not have captions? I think any manager who was a decent human being would take it back and let you choose a game with captions, and least I really would hope they would as I think you have a perfectly valid reason for needing the return. but in games that involve warfare that kinda adds to the realism. We talking about the same realism that lets me bleed like a mad man but then go heal up by simply hiding? My point being is things like hearing the objective and having the game be clear with what the objective is are absolutely imperative to a fundamentally sound and fun gameplay experience in my opinion. If sound is getting in the way of explaining an objective, then the developers made a poor decision in designing the game itself. I often enable subtitles as well because sound sometimes is so bad on games.
KoL Veteran Posted November 27, 2009 Veteran Share Posted November 27, 2009 Subtitles are not only good for hearing impaired but for people that English is not their main language too like myself. Sometimes I really don't understand what they are saying and subtitles help a lot.

Sometimes I really don't understand what they are saying and subtitles help a lot. And a game like Assassins Creed 2 does a lot of native Italian speech since the game takes place in Renaissance Italy, so I would literally have no clue what I was saying to the people I just assassinated if not for the subtitles. So they also work that was as well. ajua
The voice acting of many games is horrendous. English is not main language too and I use subtitles, even though I'm good at speaking/hearing/writing it. Captions should help those that are hearing impaired. I think you are entitled to a refund/return, so if you can't play those games, return them. Hopefully, the store would understand.
ozgeek
Yeah. unfortunately I bought AssCreed off ebay :s I'm going to list it up myself anyway. I actually can hear (with hearing aids) but I have trouble decrypting speaking english unless it is spoken slow and very clear.
