Wii or xbox 360

Recommended Posts

By now, the novelty of wii sports wore off, so as far as entertaining guests, games like Scene It, 1 vs 100, and Rockband outweigh wii sports.

I say get an Xbox 360 first. Then, if you want a 2nd console down the road, get a Wii.

Well said. My wife, who never games, said Wii games just feel "too easy" and "lacked challenge" and look like they are from "3 years ago" but she loves 1vs100 and Beatles Rock Band (yes I know there is a Wii version of BRB). While she doesn't care for more serious games, she appreicates how good AC2 and MW2 look and sound.

Had a party last weekend and several folks there were Wii owners who were all sold on the 360 by time they left, I don't evangelize consoles at my gatherings, I let the group pick what they want to do. Oh yea, average age at this paticular event, 38.

There is a very simple way to select a new console; write down the games on the platform which you simply must have and when the cost of those games combined equals the cost of the console then your purchase is warranted.

Console wars are only for the closed minded and those which cannot afford multiple systems...the rest of us buy them all and play every game that even remotely interests us.

The notions of casual and hardcore are but myths used, quite effectively, as marketing tools. (and quite effectively making tools of many ;) )

Probably one of the best comments you'll ever read in the GH (Y)

That being said, my biased opinion even although I own everything this generation, as I can never be totally unbiased, 360. You'll get a good mix of genres on the 360, the issue with the Wii is if you like online gaming, it's pretty much non-existent. If you won't ever game online, go research the games you want most.

Having owned a Wii (before my <beep> of an ex decided never to give it back, insiting she can play it with my kids, but my son has never once said he's played it with her... ) and owning a 360 I have the confidence to fully recommend to you an xbox, they have the best catalogue of games as well as the online factor (as mentioned) is a big plus, the graphics and sound are ten times better than the Wii and whilst the Wii does have that initial fun factor, it soon wears off and theres always the chance someone could smash you with the controller in the face swinging it too enthusiastically.

Also lately :shiftyninja: i finally gave in and got Guitar Hero and Rock Band...such good fun with a few beers and some mates.

I have 360 and I've had Wii.

Wii is great and fun console if you have people to play it with locally (and the money the get the accessory to everyone). 2-4+ people and you'll have a blast with it. For my own sad part I didn't have that luxury, so after beating Mario Galaxy and few other decent single player games I sold my Wii.

And what comes to 360, as people have said, it has great variety of different kind of games and you can play with friends/people through the net, not necessarily needing them to be with locally.

Such jokes have kicked off WW3 on this forum before ;)

Nobody found them funny in 2007, and they don't find them funny now :p

It shouldn't be a joke but a sad truth. There is a post here about a guy with 4 crashed xboxs.

Go wii.

Well, my fourth Xbox 360 just died

Mostly posting this just because I need somewhere to vent. Just had my fourth Xbox 360 die a couple minutes ago. Doesn't even power on, no lights whatsoever. Checked the Xbox website and they want $100 to repair it because it's not the RRoD (ironically, this machine was sent to me about four months ago because my previous one had the RRoD). Screw that. Gonna call them up in a couple days and see about getting it repaired at no cost. If not, then I'm going back and forth between selling all of my Xbox 360 games (about 40 of 'em) or just buying a new Arcade and slapping my HD on it.

Xbox Graveyard:

Xbox 360 Premium: November 2005 to March 2007 (RRoD)

Xbox 360 Elite: April 2007 to May 2007 (Optical drive failure)

Xbox 360 Elite: May 2007 to July 2009 (RRoD)

Xbox 360 Elite: July 2009 to November 2009 (Power supply failure)

Ugh. At least my launch PS3 and launch Wii are still going strong. *knocks on wood"

I'm on my 5th 360 now (note: not all of them died/are dead), but it's the only console I don't waste a second on thinking "will I buy another?"

The Wii or PS3 though....different story.
