kylejn
Mostly posting this just because I need somewhere to vent. Just had my fourth Xbox 360 die a couple minutes ago. Doesn't even power on, no lights whatsoever. Checked the Xbox website and they want $100 to repair it because it's not the RRoD (ironically, this machine was sent to me about four months ago because my previous one had the RRoD). Screw that. Gonna call them up in a couple days and see about getting it repaired at no cost. If not, then I'm going back and forth between selling all of my Xbox 360 games (about 40 of 'em) or just buying a new Arcade and slapping my HD on it. Xbox Graveyard: Xbox 360 Premium: November 2005 to March 2007 (RRoD) Xbox 360 Elite: April 2007 to May 2007 (Optical drive failure) Xbox 360 Elite: May 2007 to July 2009 (RRoD) Xbox 360 Elite: July 2009 to November 2009 (Power supply failure) Ugh. At least my launch PS3 and launch Wii are still going strong. *knocks on wood*
Sethos
How about replacing your power supply, pick one up on Ebay, just make sure it's matching the chipset ( Power output ).
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted November 29, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted November 29, 2009 I have noticed a pattern. People who have bought Launch consoles and have had a problem, seem to get issues with all the replacements too! :p The Launch console curse? Unlucky. I've never had a problem with my Xbox 360, and I've had it since 2006.

Yeah, it does seem like a pattern :p I bought my first 360 in 2006 - I sold that 360 because it was having DVD drive problems, couldn't read certain games, scratching discs and making weird noises. Second 360 ( Elite ) is having ... DVD drive problems, having trouble reading most discs, missing textures etc. and now I'm on my third ... No issues yet fortunately. Second year DVD drive problem curse!
+Anarkii Subscriber² Posted November 29, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted November 29, 2009 After 4 dead XBOX's, don't you think its time to make the switch to something that will rarely die on you? *hugs my PS3* Not a fanboy or nothing, but 4 dead XBOX's is just bad luck dude, I feel sorry for ya. Mainer82
That is unfortunate. I had one die on me (launch) and sold it to someone who wanted to fix it (which there were able to). I took that money plus some more money and purchased a new console with HDMI from Best Buy with the warranty and have been set since then. I would just buy a new one and you shouldn't have any problems as I don't trust the refurbs.
NikBrooks
I'm on my 5th console myself, but this one seems to be going strong. My first console got the Rrod and it took far to long to come back from repair. So from then on, I just took it back to GAME with the receipt and they replace it there and then. So its just a matter of a car trip into town and I've got a working Xbox. My current consoles makes some crazy noises if I leave it on to long, but hey.. I can deal with that! thenut
I'm waiting on number 7 or 8 to arrive from Microsoft. I kinda lost count. Only thing that sucks is explaining the circumstances around each 360. After 2 or 3 people just start saying things like "must be your fault" or "how do you treat your stuff?" and so on. I'm tired of having to prove it's not my fault. It's kept clean and ventilated. I treat all my stuff with care. Every other one of my electronic items works fine, including 2 modded original Xboxes running virtually 24/7 for nearly 3 years as media centers. null_
Ouch, it sounds like you've got pretty bad luck when it comes to XBOX 360's... hopefully it'll all get sorted out in the end for you. During my time as a Wal-Mart Claims Associate, there were quite a lot of 360's that would be returned on a daily basis, at least one or two a day, all because they either wouldn't boot at all, or they ran into a Red Ring of Death. It's kind of sad.

SimplySchizo
Extended warranty comes to mind. FAIL comes to mine. sad is that after what is it, 4 years? we're still hearing too many bad experiences with this particular console malfunctioning. you'd think they would've tightened their **** up a bit. guy down the street just had his 5month old take a dump. PurePhoenix
Extended warranty comes to mind. It's the logical thing to do, i agree. I hate to be in a day & age though where you NEED to purchase an extended warranty, just to guarantee you'll get the lifespan you expect from a several hundred dollar machine. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted November 29, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted November 29, 2009 An extended warranty or instant replacement service would probably be a more logical option, but it depends if you want to part with the cash. I for instance pay ?24 a year (?1.99 a month comes out of my account), and if anythin goes wrong with this 360 i'll get a brand new one. And if they don't make the model I have anymore, i'll get the next best one. Which is niiifty.

LingeringSoul
Sorry to hear about the 360 dying. I'm on my second one, but it's been going strong for about one year now. It's strange because Microsoft gave me a pretty beat up refurb (the power button can't even be pushed, as if someone bashed it with their fist), but miraculously it's still working. I suppose it's all dependant on luck. I have a friend who purchased two 360s, and whenever one dies, he just sends it in to Microsoft and uses the other one. Pretty sad that it has reached that point, but I've considered it myself.
MindTooth
Been down this path myself. I just returned my sixth Xbox 360-console last week, however do note that it were one for my friend. At least I hope you get support, and it will get solved :)
George P Global Moderator Posted November 29, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted November 29, 2009 I'm on my 2nd now, first one died a few months before the 3 year RRoD warrenty was up, but anything over 2 years doesn't bother me since it is getting fixed free, and 5-10 days without it was no biggy either. I think the problem with refurbs that keep dying on people who are on their 5th or 6th etc is that they're probably the same batch in most cases that keep getting shuffled around. Though the one I was sent doesn't seem like a refurb looking at the manufactoring date that was from this year, i forget the month. My first one was from Sept 2006.
