DrunkenBeard
Hi there :) I don't know if there are any "P&C" fans here on Neowin. Since mid-90s the genre has become nothing but it's own shadow, taken-down by more "physical", "violent" games. But it appears that since 2004 (or so), the genre's popularity is increasing, with new titles (Runaway, Ceville, Perry Rhodan, ...) and remakes (Sam and Max, Monkey Island). Among those new titles, Runaway 3 (A Twist of Fate) was no-doubt the most anticipated game inside the "Point&Click" crowd. Now that it's released, what do you think of it ? Does it live to the expectactions, or is it yet another game to add to the 3rd-sequel-curse book ? Okay, let's make it clear : You know that feeling when you're playing a Point&Click game and you've tried EVERYTHING and you still don't have a clue as to what to do ? When you keep wandering between screens hoping that something will happpen while knowing that nothing will happen ? Yup, that was something quite "normal" back in the King's Quest days. Well, don't expect such thing from Runaway 3. The game is easy ... reaaaally easy. Actually, after chapter 2, I found the game to be nothing more than an interactive movie. Unless you are new to adventure gaming, you won't be stuck, you won't quit the game because of headaches, you won't download a walkthrough and hide it in your hard-drive just "in case". That's the major and only letdown of the game, because apart from that you will love it ! To be honest, the quality of Runaway 3 if far better than anything done this decade (including Runaway 1 and 2). The writers did a great job answering the questions from Runaway 2 (Dream of the Turtle) and the graphics are even better than those of the two first episodes. One major aspect of any respectable P&C is the humour, and Runaway does a fantastic job in this area : ranging from movie parodies to auto-critic, you'll have to play the game 2 or 3 times to grasp it all. So, all in all, Runaway 3 IS a great experience. A short, but fantastic experience. For me, it was basically : Wake-up, Insert DVD, Play, Finish game, Sleep. So, if you have already delt with adventures games involving grog, time-travel, maniacs, mansions, sadistic rabbits and/or templars you don't need more than 8 hours to finish Runaway 3, otherwise it might take 10h or 12h. But apart from that, the experience is great, the quality is fantastic and at the end you'll feel disappointed that you can't have more. What about you ? :)
greven
I love Point and Click games. Have you tried Machinarium? IT's a bit different, more puzzle oriented but still very good. Runaway never tried it but I know the game very well. I loved the Old Games of Indiana Jones (Faith of Atlantis and the Last Crusade). The Broken Sword games are very good also. Played the first 3 of them and loved them. But for me one of the best are the Longest Journey. Thanks for reviving my memory on Point and Click games, I will surely look forward to try Runaway 3. gigapixels Veteran Posted December 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 6, 2009 But for me one of the best are the Longest Journey. I loved the Longest Journey, and Dreamfall was somehow even better. I've never come upon any games in the genre that I liked as much. I'll check out this Runaway 3 game, but I do like more of a challenge than an interactive movie. We shall see.
cropcircles
Not sure if they will make a "Done in 50 seconds" for PC but it is really addicting to play on my phone.
