+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 1, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 1, 2009 SCEA comms boss Patrick Seybold's confirmed 440,000 US PS3 sales for the week ending November 29. Big beans. "The 2009 holiday season got off to an amazing start for PlayStation, with all key retailers showing a significant increase for PS3, PSP and key holiday titles over Black Friday and the holiday weekend," said the exec in an emailed statement. "PlayStation 3 demand was at an all time high with the system selling more than 440,000 units for the week ending 11/29/09." Seybold went on to claim that entertainment in America this year is to be "defined" by PlayStation products. "In today's economy, consumers are drawn to items that offer the most value for their money, making the PS3 an ideal choice for those who want a comprehensive gaming and entertainment system all in one package," he said. "Combine that with exclusive holiday bundles and an extensive software line-up, one that many analysts are calling the best in the industry, with titles such as Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Uncharted 2:Among Thieves, and LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year, we have no doubt the momentum and demand will continue and consumers will prove that entertainment this holiday season is going to be defined by PlayStation." Nintendo's claiming 550,000 Wiis sold in the same period, while Microsoft said last night that 360 sales doubled in Thanksgiving week. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 1, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 1, 2009 The PS3 has the best game/system bundle this holiday season. I'm not surprised it sold very well. Yeah, good bundles clearly brought about the interest Wal-Mart: The Dark Knight on BluRay + inFamous + Arkham Asylum Best Buy: LBP: GotY Edition + Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time Gamestop: God of War Collection + LBP: GotY Edition Amazon: Killzone 2 + inFamous All $299. I think the new ads are helping as well, for the first time this generation Sony actually has the best ads IMO (Kevin Butler is hilarious). MS' is almost PS3 launch era bad ("It's more fun time"?), not as bad but, that creepy baby/this is living campaign will never be beaten for most pointless crap. cabron
I hope that the PS3 price drop again. I just bought an ipod touch and I would love a PS3 but I can't afford $300 dollars. Why they can't sell it without bundles?

I just bought an ipod touch and I would love a PS3 but I can't afford $300 dollars. Why they can't sell it without bundles? Uhhh they just dropped the price from $399 to $299 in September. If they sold it without bundles it would still be $299 ;) Hence why the above bundles sold so well during Thanks Giving, you're getting free games/movies. Yeah dropping the price was the worst idea ever, now instead of playing with wealthy (most have two jobs you know ) tea sipping, crumping eating gentlemen on PSN who say thank you after each game, we'll have to play with 440,000 kids screaming and hurling abuse because their parents now think $299 is an affordable price. Back to $599 I say, GTFO kids, PSN gentlemans club needs to reign over all. sarcasm

C_Guy
Even after Nintendo has saturated the market, they continue to out-sell PS3 by 25%. That's the real headline. This holiday season will be no different and Sony won't be anywhere near the "entertainment definition" set by Nintendo and Microsoft. But at least they're trying. Growled Member Posted December 2, 2009 Member Share Posted December 2, 2009 It's nice to see that Sony has come to their senses and dropped the price to levels that normal people can actually afford. I may get one a PS3 about next spring.
SimplySchizo
psx and ps2 ruled the console market. they made a killing. everyone and their momma's owned/s a ps2. that huge customer base went to **** with the hefty pricetag the ps3 came along with. leaving no option but the 360 for the serious gamer. the 360's early release didn't help much either. now that the ps3 is reasonably priced, all those guys that couldnt afford one at first, now finally got a chance to get their hands on. its a great time to get back on board too, considering developers are more in tune with the devkits as recent games are showing. things are just starting to get good. (Y) Main problem was always the price, aside from those with their mind already made up in 2005, why buy a PS3 when the price disparity between it and the 360 was $100~200? 360 was the obvious choice for someone not able to budget for multiple platforms, that price disparity could be spent on games. Now with them priced more similarly people actually consider the PS3 and most likely look at exclusives of each to make a decision, rather than just price. Of course it helps in the meantime Sony got rid of Kutaragi from the public eye, stopped the crazy adverts, kept their mouth shut on the fanboy fueling PR more often than not and started working on things that matter more, like firmware, and started getting some kick ass games out the tubes. The redesign of the console came at a good time, people have always liked the idea of slim consoles. Coming months will only get better for them with Japan about to go bonkers for FF13 in a few weeks, and titles like GT5/GoW3/Heavy Rain all slotted in for Q1, and others like ModNation Racers coming in Q2. As a current owner most of the above is great for new buyers, but I just want them to focus more on making FW 3.0 more polished and hurrying up on adding cross game chat.... Not that I'll really use it but once it's out the way, resources in the FW team can be diverted to more interesting things as I'm sure that's all their working on right now with everyone whining about it 24/7. SimplySchizo
i totally agree with the price always being the main issue, but i cant help but say till this day that sony's marketing/advertising or bettr said lack of, has done alot of damage. M$ invests ****-tons of $ into their ad campaigns. they sponsor alot of gaming events. this pays off. i cant say i like the current ps3 ad campaign, but hey, at least there are ads now! lol put some money into advertising, sponsor a couple devs here and there and its a totally new ballgame. I hope you don't mean pay off for exclusive content/DLC, that's without a doubt the worst thing about this generation, far worse than crappy adverts or sky high pricing. Well IMO of course, but I strongly think when a game is multiplatform, it's a gesture of good will to allow everyone who's financed your game to access game changing content - Some skins/minor exclusivity of costumes/sticker packs/etc is okay for me though. The past advertising has done a fair bit of brand damage, but what I think you'll find is a $299 price point, a slim redesign, a logo redesign (no more spiderman) and a good advertisment campaign (Kevin Butler) wipes the slate clean for most general consumers, which is why you're seeing these Thanks Giving figures. SimplySchizo
no no, nothing to do with dlc, thats a whole other conversation/topic in itself. i meant sponsor gaming events, showcase new games on their system. like what ms recently did with mw:2. m$ is very aggressive even with multiconsole games. how many times will you see a 360 logo following a commercial on a multi-console released game? giving off the impression of exclusivity. m$ is very good at marketing its gaming machine. have to give them that. sony needs to just throw a lil more money around when it comes to showcasing their system. Yeah MS is definitely better with that sort of stuff. It just seems like Sony doesn't care, they'll let MS spend their money on multiplatform games... Which is okay to save money if you're advertising your own games well, but Sony have sucked at that until this new advert campaign. To be fair if they were advertising better it is better for them to spend their money on their own studios, they have more of them to take care of than MS, but up until recently they'd been blowing that money on crappy adverts so that point was irrelevant. It seems it's MS this time around that's had a bit of an advertising question mark with this "It's more fun time" campaign, obviously trying to do the funny route Sony have gone after :p Also while I'm not going to go all grammar Nazi on you with the M$, I do think it's a bit silly. Growled Member Posted December 2, 2009 Member Share Posted December 2, 2009 I agree as well in that price has always been the main problem. I just couldn't see paying that much for a console, even one with all the neat tech that the PS3 included.
