Final Fantasy XIII European Box Art Revealed

Recommended Posts

Uhhh, and how does the fact it's a limited edition (which I knew from the get go) change the fact that they went with the main female, in a nice pink (if you like pink) color on the system itself (they also used her on the box art so it's the same idea in a sense) instead of just the logo everyone seems to like better?

It's the same idea, but used on a different object, on one side it's the box art, and on the other it's the system itself. It's still using the "main" female they've been showing off from the start to help sell it.

And why do those shots have both versions of the box art anyways?

I'm not buying the bundle I don't give a hoot about it, all I care about is the box art I get in my country as it's what I'm buying.

The difference with the cover art is every FF in past generations has been the simple logo and text, now they've changed that which is why people are talking about it.

As for why the main character is on the PS3, uhhh well, I don't think random trash mob #4 would hold all that much sentiment with the nutjobs who buy custom paint job consoles. I stay well clear, vanilla ftw.

I feel sorry for anyone who bought a MW2 360  (the deal is good, but the MW2 spray is tacky and regrettable). All paintjobs are like you're basically saying "advertise **** for free on MY console". Then in 2011 when we have MW9 your console looks "dated".

That's fine, I just find it laughable that some hate the new box art yet like the look of the limited edition system when basically they're the same. I don't care about the box art, after I play the game the box/case will be on a shelf probably collecting dust after that.

Which is fine, but some people have every single FF since 7, and like the idea of consistency.

People that say they like custom paint job systems usually just say it out of fanfare to the game, you can bet if you actually said go buy it they wouldn't, or if you let them swap their console 12 months down the line when the games mostly a thing of the past they would.

I hugely regret buying my Halo 360, wish I went black, but the elite was just out and too expensive.

Not sure I understand your point really, "basically they're the same" a game box is a game box and a special edition console is a console... the game cover has observed the same style for almost 13 years, as far as im aware there is no established style for hardware.

I agree most box art I dont really care too much about but I haven't been playing most game series more than half of my life.

I mean the same in that the box art people don't like has the main female on it and so does the limited edition system. The only difference is that it's in pink and not full color. I for one wouldn't buy that limited edition ps3 no matter how big of a FF fan I was. I mean, pink? Really?

Also the copies of FF7-9 that I have weren't just the logo, they show characters etc. Actually the ff7 case has that famus shot of cloud from behind looking up at the shinra building. So maybe I just lucked out and my NA copies were different. Whatever.

That would be NTSC versions. I always liked the PAL box art more.

Well im not a massive fan of the lightning edition PS3, its a bit pink for my taste really but I would like it if was blue, black, grey or silver but my point is the stack of games I have are all the same I just think it would be nice if it stayed that way.

Yeah those are the NA releases, EU were just the logo, think the Japanese FF7 was even more awesomely minimal:

All that post proves is that the actual game itself isn't that big and Square is once again CGI happy. But enough of that, video can be compressed without being downgraded, anyone who's seen BDRips of shows can tell you the same thing. The fact the game data itself will be the same, a few nicely compressed h264 (this is why we have it), can give you all those videos in full HD without noticible loss to the viewer.

*edit*

"In an interview in Famitsu they state that the video and audio is compressed on the Xbox 360 DVDs while the Playstation 3 version will be uncompressed and appear on a dual-layer blu-ray disc. The 360 version will obviously be released on multiple DVDs."

So, it's a non-issue at all. Move along, nothing to see here.

Whoever said it was an issue, dunno why you're getting on the defensive.

All compressed means is there may be some artifacting/it won't be as sharp/it might be 720p upscaled to 1080. Still the same video content.

With the audio, we all know the PS3 will have HD audio, but the 360 can't support that anyway regardless of discs.

I'm pointing out the facts, if that's being defensive to you then I dunno what more to say.

If anything the way your post about it made it sound like the 360 version was going to be some crappy last-gen looking FF. Video doesn't have to be upscaled at all in this case, it can be just compressed 1080p. I dunno why they'd think to upscale it. All it would be is a cut in the overall bitrate, nothing more nothing less.

You got all that from my post? Now that is someone on the defensive

All I said was the FMVs would be downgraded.

Your post which links to a article with the title "Final Fantasy XIII 360 Losing 15GB". So yes, I got it from your post. Only till the very end does it say that it's probably just the FMVs, to which I originally posted that this isn't a issue since they will be compressed in 1080p without losing anything.

You do understand what compression is and that there's varying levels of it?

I do, i've been encoding for years. Again, and since you're a huge fan of BD, you can compress it, in full 1080p without noticible loss and gain a large ammount of space. I trust you've viewed at least one BDRip movie at some point?

It's all about the bitrate, not the res, in the end. As long as Square does a good job picking it's numbers you will get just as good of a video out in the end, nitpicking minute details that you often have to zoom in to see are hardly cause for concern as well, so again, this FMV "downgrade" isn't much of an issue. That's not to say they could cut it down to 720p, but upscaling it back only puts more work on the system, so why even bother?

Space.

You talk about your BDRips, a good encode usually still ranges from 8-20GB for 1080p. Slightly less for anime, but for a movie around 1 hour 45 mins to 2 and a half hours that's the usual sizes.

FF13 will be a 40+ hour RPG, just depends how much FMV is in there. The FMVs on the PS3 will be compressed as well, there's no way they're using uncompressed data even on a BR disc, it takes up too much space (on a BR movie is 25GB+) - Which is why I pointed out to you varying levels of compression. The PS3 will have uncompressed HD audio, but not video.

With a game like FF you're also having to duplicate assets/game data on every disc if the game goes by traditional FF standards and lets you revisit places from each disc, so you have to remember that as well when you're splitting over multiple discs.

The real fact is that we won't actually know until the FULL game is played/reviewed on both PS3/Xbox 360 (Y) No point jumping to conclusions.

Looking at the BD info they posted, the vids are all short, if those times are anything to go by. Around 2mins? So if the times match up with the size 2min at 2GB, it's safe to say it's uncompressed. Yeah it's a 40+hr RPG but no one is saying most of that is videos, at least I hope not, who knows. Some of the early 2ch reviews say the game is pretty meh. I'm still going to get it though, heh.

Seems the game is getting hit pretty hard for being extremely linear, having no world map and very little exploration :(

Not what I want, especially after coming off of FF12 and how open it was.

Here's hoping Versus lives up to it's promise of going back to FF7/FF8 roots.

Of course I'm still trying it, that's just what the importers have been saying.

Didn't one of the devs for Versus XIII say something like "Its nice to see the world map again"

Which would lead me to believe that it is more open than XIII is, hopefully.

Such a pity as well, since that trailer a good few months ago when I said it looks like they have gone backwards with FFXIII, its only got more disappointing.

I will be buying it anyway, I own 1 to 10-2, 12, and some other spin offs, so I am quite the Final Fantasy Fan, but this one is just not getting me excited.

We know next to nothing about Versus though, so who knows? That seems to be sticking to the PS3 only anyways, so I'll probably never play it, or maybe way later down the road.

Sounds just like FFX to me! I don't see how that is bad after my disappointment with FFXII. :D
